For reasons that I am completely unaware of, David has always despised horizontally tiered pieces of clothing. He doesn’t usually object to anything I wear, but I still remember many summers ago when we were just friends: I wore a bright teal tiered tank when we were hanging out and he told me I looked like a go-go girl. When we started dating and he discovered it in my closet, he practically begged me to get rid of it. Since he never complains about my clothing, I decided to do as he asked. So imagine my surprise when we were shopping a few months ago and he actually picked out this sunny yellow dress and told me he liked it! It was such a momentous occasion that I had to bring it home ;)

  3. Very cute summer look! Your boyfriend sounds stylish :) My boyfriend usually just likes laid- back jeans and t-shirt looks haha.

  4. My boyfriend always comments & criticizes my outfits and clothes, so I always have to keep in my mind that what I wear is not too flashy, not too tacky, etc. But I still keep my style :)

Lovely outfit, the yellow top goes so well with the leopard print clutch & tan heels :D

That necklace is to die for, can’t wait till Forever 21 hits Belgium!

  7. That hat looks so darling on you! And I lovelovelove that clutch! So cute! Too funny about your fella’s aversion to tiered ruffles, only to realize he’s now a convert! Haha!

  8. I loved ruffled clothing and believe it or not I’ve actually tried this dress on before! I couldn’t decide if I liked the yellow or blue better though so I didn’t get it! lol!

  9. It looks perfect as a top, I think it’s too yellow to be worn just as a dress, but you always come up with the best ways to style clothes ;) Loving the floppy hat btw!

  10. I can almost kill my husband Nate whenever he takes jibes at my wardrobe. Especially since the one piece he unequivocally hates is my most unique, statement piece (my faux mohair “gorilla” coat: http://www.monochromachic.com/2011/01/guest-blogger-series-thereafterish-part.html).

So an episode/circumstance like this, where David picks out something you think he hates, yes, that necessitates buying and celebrating!

I wish I dressed like you when I was 22. You still dress more graceful, mature and sophisticated than I do, and I’m seven years older than you are! :P

  11. I am so in love with those yellow ruffles! I am not even kidding, I want to smile just looking at it! I also adore the clutch. Have to admit I’m a huge fan of black and yellow combinations :)

  12. what a gorgeous outfit and the yellow color of the dress is perfect for a bright sunny day! and love the big floppy hat!!

    cute & little

  13. You look great in yellow! No wonder David was encouraging you to get the dress. It’s funny when boys get THAT opinionated about how you look, isn’t it? The other day my boy told me he didn’t like lilac eyeshadow (or eyeshadow in general, really).

  14. This post makes me so happy Jen! I was just stressing about what to wear tonight but after seeing this, I feel incredibly inspired. I love your use of colour, yellow looks fantastic on you! So glad David gave the nod of approval :)

  15. You are the cutest darn bumble bee i’ve ever seen!

I love how bright your outfit is! It’s just so happy!

You have such an amazing sense of style. Love love love everything you wear.

  16. YOU ARE SO ADORABLE. I absolutely love the textures and patterns, and oh those Aldo shoes are amazing. I saw them the other day and decided I needed them, but then I decided that being able to afford coffee for another semester was more important. What a momentous occasion though, DAVID, IF YOU ARE READING THIS, I applaud you. Insert brofist here.

  17. I stumbled upon your blog a couple months ago, and I just wanted to comment on how much I enjoy it. Your style is elegant and classy, while retaining that element of youthful spontaneity, and it’s a great source of inspiration to my own style, which is somewhat minimalist. Congratulations on the upcoming graduation, and I’ll enjoy watching your blog as it continues to grow. :)

  18. Ok so the accessories are really ROCKING in this outfit for me.
love the bag, necklace and that fabulous derby worthy hat!!

  19. It’s weird the fixations that guys have in terms of their fashion dos and don’ts! Matt (my boyfriend) HATES polka dots and pig tails. It’s weird haha.

Anyway, I’m glad David came around because I LOVE that dress from H&M…I’d get it except the colour looks terrible on me. You look fabulous as per usual, I love the styling of this whole look! We missed you yesterday but I hope you had a wonderful Easter at home :)

  20. That’s such a cute story. I actually just got a Cynthia Rowley tiered ruffle dress a few months ago and really debated the ruffle factor. I never think they look good on me, but I think if it’s the right sort of ruffle it can work. Some of them – like on your H&M dress here – just fall the right way. Others, I find, will have one ruffle that doesn’t fall the same and if one sticks out the whole thing can look a bit awkward. Serious business, those ruffles.

    P.S. I can’t believe your necklace is Forever 21! It’s so cute!

  21. Hi Jen, I got the earrings today. They’re so gorgeous. Thank you so much. I can’t wait wear them. You look lovely in yellow. It suits you very well :)

  22. this is a very cute outfit and it is always a plus when the boyfriend approves!!

  23. That sounds like a momentous occasion indeed- the day my husband says he likes a tea-length skirt will be a big one for me, but so far it doesn’t seem likely to happen :) With that said, I know exactly why your boyfriend liked this gorgeous dress, although I’m probably biased- I have it, too, and it’s one of my favourite things in my wardrobe right now; every time I put it on, it just feels like summer! I love that you turned it into a top, and the floppy sun hat with it just perfect- so very old Hollywood chic.

  24. You’re my queen bee!:) It’s nice to have a boyfriend who cares about your outfit choices and actually suggests what to wear/buy. David has an eye for style ;)

  25. I love that lemon yellow top and those shoes! You look gorgeous and I love your writing as well :) Just followed you!

  26. You have such cute style. I wish my boyfriend was as stylish and fashion-opinionated as yours. Thumbs up on the chic outfit.

  27. you’re probably the only one I know that can get away with wearing a sun/beachy hat, walking around the city.

  28. miss bumble bee… u should wear that hat on our tea party shoot. matches the theme i think. i have a coral one similar. btw it does not look like a cowboy at all from any angle.
the top would be pretty good. btw i changed the skirt i showed u to an orange floral one. i’m still keeping the blazer though. acually r we still doing it? i think i send a hundred messages asking about it.

  29. This outfit is adorable from head to toe! Love it :)

Also, wanna follow each other? You know how it is starting a new blog :P and supporting a Vancouver blogger.

    Smiles,

  30. You look simply adorable Jen! :)

I love this outfit (bought the same dress in blue only to return it because I couldn’t see myself wearing it).

  31. I love your floppy hat!! I’ve been wanting one like that for ages, but was unsure how it would look on someone of shorter stature.

  32. I love this look, and how you’ve styled the dress! Such a cute story behind it all too!
