Recently, I came to a bit of an interesting realization: I think I have more clothes in my closet that were purchased secondhand than brand new. Consignment and thrift shopping is something I started doing years ago, when I loved to shop and wanted to find new-to-me things on a budget, but the reasons why I continue to do so have changed. These days, I purchase a lot less than I did in the past, and have just a few, very specific items that I’m looking to add to my wardrobe at a given time. I’m also increasingly learning to invest in quality and picking classic pieces that will have longevity in my closet. However, in spite of these things I still find myself often veering toward consignment and secondhand stores first. In addition to getting more bang (in this case, quality and longevity) for my buck and being able to find pieces that stores usually no longer carry, it’s become another way for me to move toward slower fashion. I like being able to give something that might otherwise go to a landfill new life in my closet, especially when it’s well made and beautiful. I thrifted this lovely graphic print skirt a while back, and it definitely reminded me of why I like secondhand so much: it was a mere $15, and is well constructed, flattering, and the perfect length for both heels and flats — perfect for transitioning into Spring and wearing well into Summer.

  1. Jen! I’ve been interested in purchasing from Cuyana, but I’m petite (5 ft/98 lbs). Do you think the XS silk tee would fit me? Thank you :)

    • Hmm that’s hard to say… I’m not quite as petite as you are (5’3.5, 110lbs) and the XS fits me. I’d say check the measurements for your best bet!

    • Hey Julia, there are so many good ones!! My top two would probably be The Main Exchange and Dragon and Phoenix. I’ve found gems at both of these places :)
