chloe love story
What makes a love story great? Is it the one that’s comprised of grand gestures, the can’t-live-without-yous, the kind of all-consuming passion that we often see in the movies? Sometimes, the romantic in me wants to say yes. It seems like this is what I’ve been told all my life, that this is the sort of love that’s ideal, and that anything less just isn’t worthwhile.

If you had asked me just several years ago, I may have very well affirmed that yes, these are indeed the things that set the grand romances above the rest.

As part of their #ChloeLoveStory fragrance campaign, Chloé asked me to share my own love story for Valentine’s Day. And as I got to writing this post, I couldn’t help but think that what I described above was pretty well exactly what I would have hoped for a few years back.

A bad break up, a period of singleness, lots of reflection, and a bit of personal growth later, and it’s pretty astounding how much that has changed.

Perhaps the love story that helps us grow has less to do with the courtship (though that’s important) and more to do with the commitment. Maybe it’s more about looking out for the other person’s growth and interests above your own instead of constantly evaluating if your needs are being met. Maybe romance is more in the mundane than it is in the mushy.

  1. Hey Jen! Love the photos – it’s a great colour scheme that goes with your blog.

A good love story has a good ending, I think – this goes for any story. My best friend used to say that my impression of the ending overshadowed the storyline.

  2. That’s a wonderful perspective on love, Jen! I think the best kind of love story is when two people who can stand on their own realize they’d be even stronger as a team, where each person is a catalyst for the growth of the other.
