Black is the New Black

November 5, 2010

Confession: I used to buy nothing but black (and the occasional white) pieces of clothing. When I went into a shop and saw a sweater offered in black, purple, yellow and grey, I would instantly reach for the black without thought or debate. My arguments? Classic. Elegant. Wear forever.

While much of that has changed and there is hardly a day now that I don’t wear a pop of colour in my ensemble, I can’t deny the impact that a fully black outfit can have when executed and accessorized properly.

By the way, another confession: I broke my shopping ban (!!!!). Go ahead and scold me. I feel horrible and like I have no self control but since I know you’re all still curious to see the piece that warranted it, I will be showing it soon.

Wearing: Zara top (last seen here), 7 For All Mankind double knit pants (last seen here), RACHEL Rachel Roy peplum jacket (last seen here), Zara booties (last seen here), Amrita Singh earrings (last seen here), Van Cleef and Arpels necklace

I’ve had the same problem with grey, which still happens occasionally… I just can’t imagine wearing any other colour in winter! :o)
I adore your top, why I’ve never seen it at Zara so far?! ;o) Definitely would grab this one!

Gosh, I used to love black… and then something happened. I don’t know what, but now I don’t even reach for black. I think it’s starting again (the black addiction). Seriously though, your all black look is beautiful, it’s actually so perfect! Can’t believe you broke your ban, can’t wait to see what you got though πŸ˜‰ I’m still holding strong! I REFUSE TO GIVE IN.

PS- The pocket detailing on your top is too adorable.

Sometimes I think I wear too much black, but it’s such a great and easy to wear color. You look adorable, as usual. I love the necklace!

I’m exactly the same!! I used to wear so much black that my friends had labelled me the preppy goth?! hahaha.. I am all about colour now too, so I guess I am making up for lost time.

This black outfit of yours is so chic. I love how it’s so understated, but at the same time you look confident and hot. <3

I am such a sucker for an all black outfit! I have to make such an effort to incorporate color (which I’ve gotten much better at over the last couple years) but still am naturally drawn to black & gray (which is exactly what I talk about in my latest post, actually!) This outfit looks gorgeous on you! Love it – so chic!

Black is a go-to because it’s so great!! I usually try to mix it up too, just so I’m not too boring, but I like how you mixed textures here, which is a good way to get away with wearing all black!

Jen!!!! I’ve missed your blog. I finally was able to catch up on all your posts. You are looking more fabulous than ever! You are the master of dressing timelessly and super chic. Everything always fits you so well, like each garment in your wardrobe was made especially for you. πŸ™‚

Well, the weekend is here and I’m so excited. I wish I could sleep in tomorrow, but I can’t. Our fashion club is having a rummage sale… great time to clean out my closet, and maybe make some room for a few new items. Hee hee!

Shopping bans ever hardly work, so I don’t blame you that your broke yours. πŸ˜€ I think moderation is key.. just like with food. But of course sometimes a spurlge item is a much needed thing!

Thanks for always being so sweet.. kisses. Oh and we finally got some rain on the island the past few days. I’m so excited!!

    xx Love & Aloha

it’s ok, shopping bans were meant to be broken! i can’t wait to see what you bought πŸ˜‰

i couldn’t agree more about an all-black ensemble. i am guilty of hoarding a monochromatic wardrobe too. working on more colour and prints. def loving prints. i tried on a similar top at zara but it fit funny on me. you look sophisticated and chic!

the beige blazer from H&M is recent and it was only $35!

Hey girl! Thanks for dropping by πŸ™‚ your photo’s are amazing! Love the black on black. I think almost everyone went through that phase of just wearing black cause I did too! I was the girl who didn’t wear colour. Back in grade eight and nine haha. But black works wonders – you did it justice πŸ™‚

Yes! I cannot wait until the 20th! Let’s really hope I don’t come back with scratches on my face cause it may be a catty one. I knew for the Garden Collection for H&M people went baaaananas!!
