Bumble Bee

April 25, 2011

For reasons that I am completely unaware of, David has always despised horizontally tiered pieces of clothing. He doesn’t usually object to anything I wear, but I still remember many summers ago when we were just friends: I wore a bright teal tiered tank when we were hanging out and he told me I looked like a go-go girl. When we started dating and he discovered it in my closet, he practically begged me to get rid of it. Since he never complains about my clothing, I decided to do as he asked. So imagine my surprise when we were shopping a few months ago and he actually picked out this sunny yellow dress and told me he liked it! It was such a momentous occasion that I had to bring it home 😉

Wearing: H&M hat, dress (as top) and clutch, RACHEL Rachel Roy trousers, Aldo shoes, Forever 21 necklace, River Island sunnies

My boyfriend always comments & criticizes my outfits and clothes, so I always have to keep in my mind that what I wear is not too flashy, not too tacky, etc. But I still keep my style 🙂

Lovely outfit, the yellow top goes so well with the leopard print clutch & tan heels 😀

I can almost kill my husband Nate whenever he takes jibes at my wardrobe. Especially since the one piece he unequivocally hates is my most unique, statement piece (my faux mohair “gorilla” coat: http://www.monochromachic.com/2011/01/guest-blogger-series-thereafterish-part.html).

So an episode/circumstance like this, where David picks out something you think he hates, yes, that necessitates buying and celebrating!

I wish I dressed like you when I was 22. You still dress more graceful, mature and sophisticated than I do, and I’m seven years older than you are! 😛

You look great in yellow! No wonder David was encouraging you to get the dress. It’s funny when boys get THAT opinionated about how you look, isn’t it? The other day my boy told me he didn’t like lilac eyeshadow (or eyeshadow in general, really).

I stumbled upon your blog a couple months ago, and I just wanted to comment on how much I enjoy it. Your style is elegant and classy, while retaining that element of youthful spontaneity, and it’s a great source of inspiration to my own style, which is somewhat minimalist. Congratulations on the upcoming graduation, and I’ll enjoy watching your blog as it continues to grow. 🙂

It’s weird the fixations that guys have in terms of their fashion dos and don’ts! Matt (my boyfriend) HATES polka dots and pig tails. It’s weird haha.

Anyway, I’m glad David came around because I LOVE that dress from H&M…I’d get it except the colour looks terrible on me. You look fabulous as per usual, I love the styling of this whole look! We missed you yesterday but I hope you had a wonderful Easter at home 🙂

That’s such a cute story. I actually just got a Cynthia Rowley tiered ruffle dress a few months ago and really debated the ruffle factor. I never think they look good on me, but I think if it’s the right sort of ruffle it can work. Some of them – like on your H&M dress here – just fall the right way. Others, I find, will have one ruffle that doesn’t fall the same and if one sticks out the whole thing can look a bit awkward. Serious business, those ruffles.

    P.S. I can’t believe your necklace is Forever 21! It’s so cute!

That sounds like a momentous occasion indeed- the day my husband says he likes a tea-length skirt will be a big one for me, but so far it doesn’t seem likely to happen 🙂 With that said, I know exactly why your boyfriend liked this gorgeous dress, although I’m probably biased- I have it, too, and it’s one of my favourite things in my wardrobe right now; every time I put it on, it just feels like summer! I love that you turned it into a top, and the floppy sun hat with it just perfect- so very old Hollywood chic.

miss bumble bee… u should wear that hat on our tea party shoot. matches the theme i think. i have a coral one similar. btw it does not look like a cowboy at all from any angle.
the top would be pretty good. btw i changed the skirt i showed u to an orange floral one. i’m still keeping the blazer though. acually r we still doing it? i think i send a hundred messages asking about it.
