Comfort First

June 29, 2017

For many years of my life, comfort didn’t exactly take priority when it came to getting dressed (slightly embarrassing photographic evidence here, here, here, and consistently throughout the first few years of this blog, really…). I’m not sure why this was the case, but one guess is that I used to equate feeling comfortable with being sloppy.

Now that I’m a little bit older, things have definitely changed, and not a moment too soon. Most mornings now, I plan my look under the condition that it’s something I can walk in, breathe in, and sit in at the office for the day without feeling constricted or uneasy. In other words, I’ve learned that I like wearing my clothes instead of having my clothes wear me. Several elements have been key for this, including more natural fabrics and flowier silhouettes. This Everlane silk blouse is a new favourite that speaks to this sentiment perfectly, with its breezy silk and easy cut. Although I’ve most often been wearing it with high waisted jeans or shorts, I recently made it a little more feminine by pairing the piece with a pleated skirt and a knot at the waist.

This outfit is so beautiful! I’m curious though–how do you keep your silk pieces from discolouring? I’ve had some bad experiences with my dark silks getting splotchy.

I’ve been more conscious about getting rid of clothes that I don’t find comfortable because otherwise I won’t wear it often anyway!
