Hello – long time no outfit post! Truthfully, I’ve sort of been trying to find my “voice” as a content creator since becoming a mom: as someone who’s spent so many years been sharing my looks here, much of my time nowadays is spent at home in pajamas or more “practical” clothes that aren’t very exciting. I think early parenthood has definitely shifted my relationship with clothing; whereas it used to be primarily about styling, I’m now first thinking about how my wardrobe fits into the needs of my life with a young baby.
That being said, I’m realizing more than ever now that the best clothes are the ones that have both beauty and function — something that can both add aesthetic value to my closet and handle a healthy amount of baby spit up. Enter the Ruby top by local brand Free Label. It has all the makings of a dressier garment with its elegant neckline and flowing sleeves… yet it happens to have a pocket, be machine washable, and is also nursing friendly! It’s the perfect layering piece for my transitional spring outfits now and will be equally great paired with denim shorts and high waisted silk pants come summer.
Supporting local, women owned businesses is becoming increasingly important to me and there’s a lot to celebrate with Free Label. Jess, the owner of the brand, is dedicated to making great basics – but not at the cost of the environment or human rights. She’s highly involved with the entire process from the ideation of each piece to interacting with her customers, and has built quite the community on social media. All of her pieces are cut and sewn in Canada using sustainable materials that feel amazing against the skin, and she’s inclusive in her sizing, using models of all shapes and sizes. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the market for solid closet staples with a bit of unique flair!
