Pared Down

January 4, 2012

{photos by Ying Yuan}
In my first and second years of university, I basically lived in variations of a uniform consisting of a blouse, a cardigan and jeans. Then, somehow I discovered the magical, much more comfortable world of skirts & trousers and this is probably the 3rd time I’ve put on a pair of denim since then. I think the lack of jean-wearing is one of the reasons why many think I am excessively dressed up all of the time, but the truth is: I just find denim so relatively uncomfortable! So, I’d like to officially mark the first (and quite possibly only) time in the entire life of this blog that a proper pair of jeans will have made it into an outfit post. Exciting, right? πŸ˜‰
How often do you wear jeans? I’m curious!

Wearing: Zara jacket and faux fur scarf, Modcloth blouse, J.Crew sweater, 7 For All Mankind jeans, H&M booties, MICHAEL Michael Kors bag, Tom Ford sunnies, BCBG ring & silver bracelet, Lauren Elan gold bracelet (c/o)

To be honest I do wear my skinnies a lot, even though, just like you, I find them quite uncomfortable… Well, maybe I always buy myself the wrong pair! :o)

You look lovely in this combination!

Yes, skirts and trousers can be super comfy. But we all need to wear jeans sometimes. Love the leopard peeking out. You look lovely.

I totally agree with you, I don’t think jeans are comfortable at all. I probably wear them 3 times a month, and only for late night trips to bubble tea or for a cup of coffee.

But for what it’s worth, you do look great in jeans! Very cute outfit.

I used to be a jean queen. I owned so many pairs!! But gone are those days. It’s hard for me to find a pair of really good fitting jeans that don’t gape at the back of the waist. I’m definitely a dress and skirt type of gal. And of course I love pants that have give. πŸ™‚

I like this look on you, Jen. It’s different from your norm, but I totally dig it.

I hope 2012 has been amazing for your so far! Cheers to the New Year.

I can absolutely relate to you Jen! I gave up on denim ever since university.. until I recently discovered them again because my bf thinks that jeans are much more flattering. It also does the job of keeping me warm so I’m trying to keep my mind on warmth rather than comfort.

I recently ordered a pair of J Brands jeggings and they feel like heaven. Perhaps you can try out jeggings if you think that jeans are too uncomfortable πŸ™‚

P.S. I think this is actually one of my favourite posts of yours! Very chic and well put together!

Haha, I noticed immediately that you were wearing jeans, as I don’t know if I’ve ever seen you in them before! Up until this past year, I was almost never in jeans – skirts and dresses, like you said, are ten times more comfortable, but this year I did pick up a couple pairs of jeans with higher rises that I seem to wear more often! This outfit is ADORABLE! I love the leopard blouse peeking out and the fur stole! So cute! Hope you had an amazing holiday, lady!

Look like denim’s moment to shine on your blog! I actually used to not wear jeans that often because I had either a dress code or uniform until I graduated high school…since then I’ve sort of gone into a jeans-spree, but I think now the novelty of being able to wear jeans anytime I want has worn off. Hope that you have a great rest of the week and stay warm!

I wear jeans regularly, but at the moment my cord jeans leggings are definitely my favorite. I love wearing skirts and dresses as well, but sometimes it’s just easier for me to quickly put on a pair of jeans.

I had a no jeans phase but I’ve come to love wearing denim again! I wear jeans quite often, I usually stick to very stretchy jeans or thick jeggings. My fav pairs are from Citizens of Humanity and J Brand, they’re actually very comfortable!

I used to wear jeans constantly. They were my uniform. I think that had a lot to do with the fact that where I grew up, dark jeans are considered fancy attire. True story. I gave up denim last year and it was a lot of fun, but I find the world of skirts and dresses to be too chilly sometimes – hence the reason jeans are back in my life πŸ™‚ I probably only wear them once every two weeks, though! I think you did a beautiful job of dressing yours up, that leopard blouse is so you!

Hi Jen! Happy New Year. I’m exactly like you, I prefer skirts and dresses over pants/ jeans. I only wear jeans if I really need to and never ever during the summer time.

I wonder how many pair of jeans you have in your closet? cuz I only have 2…lol

That blouse goes so great with the booties-I like that you just have it tucking out of the sweater.

Everyone says jeans are so uncomfortable! I live in jeans, I love them so much. I try to buy the super stretchy kind so they have more give-I’m currently in love with Cheap Monday’s second skin high waisted skinnies. They’re more like leggings than pants (especially in the black) so they have a lot of give.

I actually love the way jeans feel but don’t wear them very often because of their lack in “character.” I’ve got a few pairs that evoke more style – a flared pair and a broken-in boyfriend fit – but so often, jeans are worn as a last-minute, no-thought addition to an outfit, which is why I tend to shy away from them. These look fabulous on you though and I think the outfit looks great!

I wear jeans ALL the time! I do know what you mean re: uncomfortable. If you don’t find a softer pair, then they can be so restricting, which is really annoying.

I LOVE this look, you should def. post more jean inspired looks.

I hardly ever wear jeans at all unless I’m cleaning or doing something like hiking or something that requires denim, like visiting family in Snowy, Nastily Cold Detroit. And I hardly wear them for the same reason as you… they’re uncomfortable. And I don’t know how to style them.

However, you make them look like the best pair of dressy leggings on a good day.

    Bravo, darling!
