A while ago, we shot an outfit post at Granville Island and I raved about it being one of my favourite parts of town. I had expressed that one of the best aspects of it was the public market, but unfortunately hadn’t brought the appropriate camera gear to get proper photos of it. Recently I was there again, and this time around I had Paul and Rod with me to beautifully capture the life of this charming little spot. Enjoy!

{behind me is the amazing chicken pot pie stand that I mentioned in this post!}

P.S. I’m hoping that you were too busy enjoying a sunny weekend to be around during the blog’s down time yesterday, but thanks for your patience while I was making tweaks to the design! Fundamentally, I know not much changed with the layout but I just wanted to pare it down & hopefully make it a little easier to navigate. What do you think?

  1. Aw, this place looks adorable – sort of like our St. Lawrence Market here in Toronto :P I can’t wait to pay a visit to Vancouver one day!

You’re so sweet Jen! I’ve been following you since time too ;) I’ve been impressed and inspired by your style since day one :) I had a lot of fun with the girls yesterday at the garden party – too bad it was WAY too hot for photos in the sun :(

  2. I love the new look of your blog! Your posts are always so natural, colorful, vibrant and fun. I look forward to reading them and looking at the pics. Your photographers are fab! What brand of camera’s do they use? They take excellent pics. Keep up the great work.

  3. I love the red and black together in this outfit. It’s striking and exudes confidence. Really nice photograph here too! Love!

  4. I just tweeted you but thought I’d leave a comment too…love your new layout- its very clean and crisp!!!! Love the pics!!!!

  5. Hi Jen! I am re-discovering your blog! I saw your name in all the places I was commenting! :) I love your “hi there!” description…so true…and so sweet! :)

I love this red scarf on you! Your flats look so comfortable for city walking! I am so jealous of your public market! :p

  6. Just read your FAQs, so okay, the WAISE choice is a play on the WHY sound of a name and the word “wise” right? I always wanted to know what the heck it meant. LOL.

Yeah, the new design is clean and minimal and chic just like you.

The market is a cleaner, more upscale version of the Eastern Market we have here in Detroit. The farmer’s market here is the largest one in the country and is surrounded by warehouses, meat packing plants, grocer warehouses, warehouse theatres, tiny old restaurants, antique stores. It’s very grimy, old and historic. Nothing upscale and air conditioned like Granville, but sort of the same feel with vendors and amazing finds.

    :)

I can’t wear cute clothes or heels there, though. It’d be WAY out of place.

  7. I have to tell you, Jen, I’ve always loved the way your blog looks- the simplicity of it, the classic layout… You have one of the prettiest, most easy to navigate sites around. But it’s looking better than ever since its recent makeover :) I especially love the new header. It really epitomises the new classic philosophy that you’ve taken on. And your photos, as always, are absolutely stunning. Granville Island isn’t my favourite spot, mainly because I’m not a big fan of crowds, but you make it look so relaxed and fun :) And I love your shorts- mainly because I have a pair of them, too!

I am not exactly sure what changed…but TOTALLY think it is beautiful, simple and easy to navigate..I agree and have a hard time navigating through some blogs w all the sidebar stuff etc. I am thinking about removing my side designs…back and forth, back and forth..you may have inspired me to do so…we shall see.

  13. You’re so cute Jen! I love Granville Island as well, possibly one of my favourite little niches as well. Also, I had introduced N to the pot pie stand, I discovered it during the Olympics and definitely cannot stop going back :) Speaking of which, seeing the stand makes ne need to go back again!

P.S. As I mentioned before, loving the layout :) Minimalism, ftw!

  14. I’m loving the new layout! What beautiful pictures, the market looks like such a great place to just walk through on the weekends. Always a treasure to be found!

  15. I stayed at a hotel on Granville Island a few years ago. They had the BEST food market! And cute little shops. I miss that place!
