The Casual Jumpsuit of My Dreams

August 28, 2019

tradlands finn jumpsuit review

Although I’ve got a lot of mixed feelings about going back to work full time in a few weeks, one thing I am looking forward to is having an excuse to not be in sweats all day. While I love the idea of dressing well even at home, I’ve learned this year that I’m decidedly not motivated enough to do so when there’s nowhere to be and nobody to see (except Miles, of course). As such, it’ll be a nice change to wear the bulk of the clothes in my closet again!

One piece that has me particularly excited is this new Finn jumpsuit from Tradlands. This is my first piece from the popular ethical clothing brand and I’ve been so impressed. Tradlands aims to create pieces that can be worn with everything and that will be lived in for years to come, and everything about the style and quality of this piece aligns with that mantra. Read on to find out more about the jumpsuit and see a couple of ways I’ve styled it so far!

The Piece

What it is:
The Finn jumpsuit by Tradlands: a casual yet polished utility one-piece that can be dressed up or down. A description from the website:

Mood: Classic, cool, effortless. Introducing the archival-inspired jumpsuit of your dreams. The Finn is made of sustainable linen and Tencel fabric with coverall details like deep patch pockets. Comes with a sash belt (and no belt loops) so you can choose where to cinch it. Relaxed fit through the hip and thigh for max comfort. The slightly cropped hem is easy to cuff.

Retails for:
$227 USD

Fit:
Runs large – or rather, it’s meant to be oversized. Stick with your regular size if you prefer a more relaxed fit and like a bit of a dropped crotch look. I wanted a more fitted, streamlined silhouette, so I sized down to an XXS from my usual XS-S. I’m glad I did!

Note: I’m very pear shaped and most of my weight is in my bum and thighs. I think this might be why I was able to achieve the fit I wanted with the XXS– because it’s roomy in that area. If you’re smaller or proportionate in your lower body, it’ll probably fit more like how it fits on the website models!

Fabric:
As mentioned above, the jumpsuit is made of a linen and tencel blend. I’ve never tried another piece of clothing with this material and I love it! It’s breathable and slightly structured, but very soft at the same time. It also seems to wrinkle less than linen and also holds its shape better.

Available colours:
Black and Clay (Linen Tencel), Natural (Canvas)

I wore these Miista shoes and The Stowe bag all summer long (photo proof here and here), and you better believe I’m going to keep styling them into fall as long as the weather allows! Paired with the jumpsuit and a cashmere cardigan, they fit right into a cooler weather wardrobe.

I’m a big fan of camel and black together in the fall so the knit was a natural pairing. The cardigan is a new edition from Vince; they make the loveliest, chicest sweaters. Shopbop carries a good selection of their line, and while the brand is definitely pricey there are often some decent sales to be found. I always wear my Vince pieces to the ground!

LOOK 2

We’ve had some slightly cooler weather in the last week, but it felt a little premature to break out my fall pieces, so I paired the jumpsuit with a few summertime favourites. This white Everlane chore jacket has been a great easy piece to throw on over pretty much anything (I love the boxy, slightly cropped cut), and the Oatmeal Studio Slides from The Lei – more on these soon – have been my go-everywhere flats lately since I’ve sadly pretty much worn down my white Day Gloves.

This may not have been the most flattering of outfits, but the tie on the jumpsuit helped give me more of a defined waist and the neutral slides helped elongate my legs. Plus, I’m all for anything that’s simple and comfortable enough to chase after an increasingly active baby in!

You find the most original brands I’ve never even heard of. And you pull it off beautifully and your style is effortless. Too bad I’m alot shorter than you and with a smaller budget too. But very inspiring posts. Thank you

I love that jumpsuit! It works for so many different occasions. I would wear that to visit my horse and to give her a good brushing. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve been looking for the jumpsuit of my dreams and this is it. Especially since, as you mentioned, you’re bottom heavy and so am I. The fact that it looks good on you encourages me about it’s fit. It’s tough for me to find jumpsuits and rompers that don’t over-enhance my hips and belly.
