When Alex asked me several weeks ago if I could answer a few questions about winter dressing for her class, I was admittedly a little bit daunted. After all, you’re looking at the girl whose boyfriend now keeps an extra down jacket in his car because she’s put looking cute over warmth so many times. Taking part in the interview has inspired me to really be practical with my dressing this year, while still maintaining a sense of personal style. So, a pledge: no more not-so-warm “winter” dressing for the sake of the blog this year. Here’s to outfits that look good and will still actually keep you from catching a cold!

Wearing: Zara cape and skirt, sweater from a consignment store (no label), leather gloves from Finland, Stuart Weitzman booties (c/o)

  1. haha, i’m the same! i love this look though, i guess it really is just a case of layering lots of woollen pieces (& a secret: I sometimes wear 2 pairs of tights so that i can still wear skirts in the winter ;)

  3. Oh, Jen, this is so adorably cozy! I love it! With such a huge number of bloggers hailing from California and other warmer states, I always find it so inspiring to see a blogger actually dressed for winter! I am always FREEZING, and told myself the same thing this year – no more standing in the snow in a party dress for the sake of the blog! Haha! Warmth is where it’s at this year! I really, really love this outfit – the layers are amazing, and I love the belt! xo!

  4. So true! Made me think of that Chinese saying “rather be beautiful than alive” or something like that haha.

  5. You look ABSOLUTELY stunning. Love the layers, totally worthy of a Vancouver winter :p! That belt is phenomenal I love how all the pieces tie in perfectly! <3

  6. I looove the layering in this outfit, looks so complex and it’s so fun! Great photos, you on the yellow background look radiant! :D

  7. This is my goal every year, but instead I end up on the warm side and looking cute goes on the back burner…I don’t take cold weather well! :P
Trying again this year though and looking forward to all of the winter outfit inspiration coming from your blog, this is such a great start!

  8. That belt is fantabulous. It just gave your outfit and extra somethin’ somethin’. Also, the setting is so beautiful. The leaves are just that colour that is so Fall!

  10. Oh Jen, I’m so with you! I put looking cute over being warm over and over again… Fashion before function is my motto :) I think you did beautifully with this layered look, though, and I loved seeing it in person.

  13. Great job on the layering! Love the different shades of grey with the black. It proves that you didn’t need any ‘poppy colors’ to make an outfit look interesting.

  15. Admittedly I have the same tendency haha. You’ve done an amazing job of layering here though – looks super cosy! I’m also completely in love with your Zara cape; i’ve been looking for something similarly simple & chic myself! :)
