cherry blossoms vancouver
Even through five spring seasons of blogging, I’d never once shot in the blooms during Vancouver’s cherry blossom season. I think I’d always shied away from it due to particularly high expectations, wanting the photos to do the blossoms’ beauty justice. I’d sort of anticipated that, when it finally happened, the shoot would be sunny, warm, and light, capturing the spring season to a tee. That’s why I got pretty discouraged when Brian pointed out this lovely location last week and then, shortly before we began shooting, heavy rain and wind hit us out of nowhere. But thanks to his persistence, skill, and innate ability to cheer me up, we ended up capturing these photos – with a magical, almost snow-like effect – in a way that was beyond my expectations.

I’ve always preferred shopping by myself. Without having someone else there, I’m free to take my time in slowly browsing, sifting, and meticulously making sure that the fit, fabric, and versatility of a piece make it a worthwhile addition to the closet. One downfall to shopping alone, however, is the lack of an honest second opinion during the process. Even if we know our bodies reasonably well and are more or less aware of what looks good on us, sometimes we just need someone who’s truthful – even to a fault – to tell us whether or not something is flattering. And while that might be what sales associates are supposed to do, we all know that it’s not always (understandably) the case when things like sales goals and targets are at stake.

That’s why my experience shopping at LOFT was so refreshing. Hauling two full armfuls of clothes with me into the fitting room, I was provided with endless patience, sincere opinions, and even suggestions on what else to pair pieces with as I tried and retried everything. I never felt hurried or like I was taking too long, and Alannah, who was formerly a personal stylist and someone who clearly loved her job, not only put up with my fussiness but understood. I walked out with three well-fitted, quality pieces that will integrate seamlessly into my wardrobe, making the whole experience well worth the trek out to West Vancouver or Metrotown.

PS. Their Petites section consistently fits me better than almost anything else I’ve found (see past posts wearing LOFT here and here). And the petite curvy jeans are a dream for this short-legged, hippy girl; I’ve worn this high-waisted pair nearly every day since picking them up last week.
