My 2016 post count for the year was definitely the lowest it’s been since I started the blog. One reason for this is the sheer fact that there was too much going on in my personal life — what with wedding planning, apartment hunting, moving, and full time work — and this space just fell by the wayside. But my other rationale, and the one that I’d prefer to believe though the former may be more true, is that I’ve also wanted to spend more time on each post and consider my content more thoughtfully.
In the past, I’ve been quick to pump out posts for the sake of posting X times per week, but that often resulted in content that I didn’t feel great about. And while I didn’t write as often last year, I did make it a goal to add value to each post whenever I did. Whether or not that was accomplished is not my call, but I hope that in one way or another I’ve been able to do a bit of that. With that being said, here’s a (slightly late) recap of my top five from 2016…

1 | THE CLOSET EDIT (above)
2016 started off with a post on wardrobe editing and paring back. Around January of last year was probably the first time I really felt like my closet had slimmed down enough for me to see clear themes of what truly felt like my style. I discovered that I wore a lot of high-waisted black denim, long sweaters, and black booties (still very much the case now). I also shared some thoughts on how I learned to purge well and continue to edit my closet… all principles that I’m still sticking to a year later.
2 | DRESSED IN WHITE
As mentioned in the beginning of this post, I got married last year. And aside from everything involved with the actual wedding, it also happened to be an incredible opportunity to work with a handful of very talented Vancouver based vendors. I collaborated with some amazing ladies on a 3-part wedding beauty shoot over the summer, and it was so much fun experimenting with different beauty looks and florals before my wedding day. This all white look with a classic red lip was by far my favourite. See the other two posts here and here.

3 | PROPORTION PLAY
I included this one in my top 5 simply because of how much I loved being in this outfit – so much so that I feel like I made a personal sartorial discovery. It’s always helpful to have a “go-to” silhouette that makes you feel amazing, and after wearing this high-waisted, wide leg pant and off-the-shoulder top ensemble, I’m quite positive that this combination is the one for me (I just wore another variation of it again here!).

4 | A WORTHY INVESTMENT: THE LEATHER JACKET
This is technically another round-up post, but I included it because it demonstrates pretty clearly just how much I wear this lovely moto leather jacket of mine. I don’t think I’ve worn anything else more in the last year and, although you’re probably tired of seeing it, it’s proven to be an indispensable part of my wardrobe. If you’re looking for a timeless piece to wear through every season, I’m convinced this could be it.

5 | ON CLOTHES: THOUGHTS ABOUT CURATING, SHOPPING, AND LIVING WITH LESS
Out of everything I’ve rounded up here, I think this post could be my favourite… mostly because as I wrote it I felt like I was able to be transparent and honest about where I am while providing some useful tips at the same time (at least I hope so!). In the post, I talked about why I seasonally buy, and how I’ve made use of tools like a tailor and cobbler to extend the life of my clothes.

Thanks so much Julia! I can’t imagine being a part of the wedding industry and surrounded by all of the planning all of the time… but there’s definitely so much beauty and joy in it. Kudos to you and here’s to a better blogging year for both of us 🙂
