I’m sure many of you share the same sentiment, but I have very mixed feelings about Black Friday. The sheer consumerism and unnecessary spending deeply bother me, and the sales admittedly make me think I need more than I actually do. At the same time, though, it still is a good opportunity to get what I actually need or have truly considered at a better price.
This Black Friday, I’ll mostly be sitting out of the shopping, save for a few necessities for Miles. That said, I will be picking up a few gifts and also planning ahead for a couple of needs in the new year (like summer shoes!). You may know I’ve been partnering with Shopbop for a while now, and their tiered sales are pretty great to score on brands that don’t usually go on sale. If you are choosing to shop this Black Friday, here are a few things I’m considering that you may be interested in, too!
Slip makes beautiful silk accessories that are practical yet luxurious. They’re also, in my opinion, one of the best things to gift! I use their scrunchies on a daily basis for making low buns without wrecking my hair. I’m planning on gifting this “Mrs” sleep mask to a close friend who’s getting married next year!
This Jonathan Adler candle, like most of his designs, is a little bit quirky but I also find it incredibly chic. We have one in our bathroom and somehow it’s become one of my favourite things. I want to stock up on them for gifts for others!
While we all know that Shopbop carries a huge selection of women’s clothes and accessories, I was so surprised to recently find a lovely, whimsical, quality curation of gifts for kids on the website. Since then, we’ve gotten the Hape car and Loog guitar (approved by the musician husband!) for Miles’ playroom, and he loves both.
They also have some really beautiful but slightly impractical things, like this cute cactus pillow. I also keep needing to convince myself that Miles has zero need for this Oeuf alpaca bunny hat… but wouldn’t it be so ridiculously cute?!
While summer shoes are probably the last thing on your mind at the moment, I’m thinking ahead — partly because we’re going to Hawaii in January and also because there are incredible deals to be had right now if you need a pair! The Carrie Forbes, Cult Gaia, and Coclico pairs shown above are all super discounted (up to 70% off), high quality, and versatile additions to many wardrobes.
Oh, and regarding the Birkenstocks: I told myself I’d never wear them, but after wrestling with Miles while trying to put on my own sneakers all last summer I’m strongly considering a pair for easy comfort!
I always look to Shopbop sales to pick up wardrobe classics. They recently started stocking Naadam, an ethically produced and sourced cashmere brand, and I’m seriously considering adding one to my sweater collection!
The site also has some of the best accessories available, including some true, but lesser known classics like Smythson: I bought a small cardholder in London on my very first press trip (also my first solo trip) almost 7 years ago and still use it today, so the brand is pretty sentimental for me!
