Tuesday Treats – Juxtapose

October 18, 2011

{round toe pumps with a girly print against unabashedly edgy, lace up booties}
Feminine vs. Masculine. Subdued vs. Bold. Delicate vs. Harsh. Juxtaposing in style has proven to be one of the best ways to not take a trend too literally or to help make something your own. Now more than ever, I’ve been enjoying this practice in the way that I dress, and my wardrobe has changed to accommodate this accordingly. Here are some of my favourite things as of late that have been allowing me to do this.

{the vast majority of my nail polish collection consists of these two shades: one makes me feel youthful and feminine, and the other- grown up and bold}

{a leather miniskirt next to a ladylike midi-length floral piece}

{the girliest of girly pearl & bow studs brought next to textured, angular statement earrings}

{the most stunning juxtaposition of all – urban buildings against beautiful nature & what Vancouverites are constantly spoiled with}
What’s been inspiring you lately?

    It’s funny cause the word “juxtapose” would definitely define my style, I can go from feminine to totally edgy from one day to another, lovely pictures, I can’t wait to find a great leather skirt!

    I haven’t seen a close up of those Stuart Weitzman booties yet and I love them even more now! Are they comfortable?

    I always love red nail polish too. I’m looking for a shade that’s a bit deeper and richer that’s more office-friendly.

    I’m really inspired by the changing weather. It’s so much fun to pull out all my fall items from last year and trying to rework them in new ways.

    I love the juxtaposition and the study in binary opposites in you. I noticed that you’ve gotten more courage to pull off more edgy pieces, when earlier this year you commented on one of my outfit posts that you were too feminine to pull off edgy style. I’m so happy to see that doubt fall away.

    You’re inspiring me so much lately. I wish I had more room in my budget to buy more clothes. I am craving buying beautiful water color print pleated dress like your midi, but with my imminent move to Honolulu and my imminent lay off, I am pretty much strapped for cash in terms of buying clothes. 🙁

    You are so inspiring, darling. Keep up your flow. I’m with ya!

    Cute idea! I have a hard time juxtaposing outfits so maybe I can pull some inspiration from this. Thank you!

    Juxtaposing is definitely an interesting topic. We don’t even pay attention sometimes on things like that. Thanks for pointing out!
    Great pictures.
    PS And I am still in love with your SW booties.

    oh i agree with this entirely! adding that little bit of “edge” to a feminine outfit or a little bit of “pretty” to an edgy outfit .. really is the perfect way to balance something and make it your own.
    awesome post & photos Jen – this is just how I’ve been feeling lately!

    Great post! When it comes to “opposites”, I really loved your outfit with the leather skirt and lace top a little while ago.
