You know that feeling of relief when you get to relax at the end of a full, busy day? Whether it’s meeting friends for dinner, going for a run, or even just turning on Netflix, I’ve found that it’s always necessary to have something to help you really unwind and rest so that you’re ready for the next day. For me, this often involves getting into my PJs and hopping into bed with a cup of Trader Joe’s Well-Rested and some beautiful cookbooks (I’m currently loving this one for totally accessible and non-pretentious yet delicious recipes!).
La Roche-Posay has claimed to capture this feeling – in the form of skincare – with their new Toleriane Ultra Nuit line. All of the Toleriane products were created to relieve sensitive skin, and the new night cream in particular was made especially to allow you to wake up in the morning to calm, rested skin. Since I’ve felt my skin getting more sensitive and prone to irritation over the past few years – especially during the winter – I was quick to jump on board when I was invited to try out the product.
When I first felt the texture of the product, I was honestly a little unsure about how to use it. The product looks milky and creamy like a moisturizer, but wasn’t quite hydrating enough, in my opinion, to act as one. It also didn’t quite have the consistency of a serum, since I’m used to those being a little more runny. So while it did feel pretty nice, it almost felt like an unnecessary extra step. I put it on in between serum and moisturizer for two weeks, but it didn’t seem to make too much of a difference… so I was frankly a little underwhelmed.
I was ready to write it off, until a recurring winter skin issue of mine came up again. In the last couple of years, I’ve found random, dime-sized patches of eczema on my body during the cold weather. This is something that has only started happening recently for whatever reason. When I discovered the first one of this winter I randomly decided to dab some Toleriane on it — and lo and behold, it worked. In one evening the patch faded for the most part, and after the next application it was completely gone! I definitely wasn’t expecting this, since even my best moisturizers haven’t been able to do this. To solidify this, I also gave it to my husband to use on his face since he gets pretty flaky skin during the winter, and it also did good things for him.
Overall, from my own experience it seems like this would be a good product for you if you’re someone who suffers from a condition such as eczema or psoriasis, or even just flaky skin – especially since it’s quite reasonably priced compared to many department store brands. I’ll definitely be keeping this one in the lineup for my random eczema patches this winter.
