One of my favourite ways to spend an afternoon is to work, read, or catch up with a friend at a coffee shop. When it comes to the downtown core in Vancouver, Giovane Cafe the perfect spot for all three of those things (and more – they’ve also got Italian food, magazines, and lots of candy!). Located in The Fairmont Pacific Rim, it’s an optimal spot for people watching and is also definitely an indulgent treat to eat there. And speaking of indulgent treats, their sugar buns are a must try – just make sure you leave our diet at the door.

Soft tortillas. Juicy meat. Messy, flavourful, eat-with-your-hands goodness. If there’s one food I have a weakness for, it’s got to be tacos (okay, and sushi). I first tried one of these marvelous creations on the streets of Mexico in 2006, but had largely forgotten about their deliciousness since (I’d also assumed that I would never find anything as good on this side of the border). However, this love has been rekindled in full recently… and it’s all thanks to La Taqueria. These days, a taco craving seems to be a regular occurrence, and the fact that this casual eatery is right across from a train station and basically smack dab in the middle of the city gives me endless excuses to pop in on any given day.
