Blocks of Colour

March 3, 2011

Although the majority of my closet is still filled with neutrals and leopard print (which arguably counts as a neutral!), I enjoy any and every excuse to add colour to an outfit. One of my favourite things to do is wear an ensemble of exclusively neutral tones and then inject a pop of colour in one item, be it a piece of clothing or accessory. I feel that it is one of the easiest ways to add interest while still being relatively safe. The colour blocking trend that has once again come upon us this spring has provided an opportunity to be a little more adventurous and add a second pop! My favourite tried-and-true colour mix is yellow with blue but I already have a few extra combinations in mind to try with the existing pieces in my closet (can’t wait to use these pieces separately)!

Will you be colour blocking this spring? What colours are you most excited to wear together?

Wearing: Zara sweater, ASOS skirt, unbranded trench, Jacob belt, vintage Bruno Magli pumps (Value Village find!), BCBGMAXAZRIA necklace, structured purse from local boutique Flok

Gorgeous, I adore colour blocking and I’m looking forward to a little more of it in my wardrobe. I really love salmon pink & orange together + blue & red. Thank you for the fabulous inspiration. xx veronika

Love it! So bright and colourful! The pictures are so vivid with your colourful clothes and the snow in the background. Looking at the colours make me really happy. I am saving this as inspiration as I’ve got a red coat, too. I Will be colour-blocking, just need to wait for the weather to get a bit warmer for my pieces.

I’ve always been a bit shy when it comes to color blocking, but this spring I’m going to try it with tones/shades of the same color—like reds and pinks and corals. Does that count as color blocking? πŸ™‚

Cute outfit! I like how you braved the rain for the sake of your blog πŸ˜‰ Let’s see… I really want to try wearing coral/peach with green, and I just bought a bright blue vintage purse, so I want to pair that with my purple wool coat!

It’s gonna be a tough job for me, as I usually stick to some neutrals mixed with grey in spring, but let’s see! I’ve already got a red cardigan, orange belt and some purple tee, maybe I should wear these together? :o)
You’ve come up with a gorgeous combination here!

Oh love the bright blue with orange! My closet’s mostly neutrals, patterns and muted colours now–I don’t know how that happened lol. But I’d like to try wearing a crisp white shirt with a colourful bottom. It looked so great in the Jil Sander show–very fresh and clean.

I love the color blocking look. It’s definitely this season’s trend. That means I must start shopping for bright-colored pieces. First off, red jeans! πŸ˜€
