As much as I like colour and bright pattern, there is something in me that tends to keep going back to classic black and white. I love how you can play with the two shades freely to create just about any type of look — from elegant to edgy, from demure to bold. It’s basically fail-proof, making it fun to mix and match even the boldest of patterns. I had originally planned to pair this new addition from J.Crew with brightly coloured trousers, but swapped the bottoms out for a houndstooth skirt last minute to create a slightly more daring, graphic look.

Wearing: J.Crew blouse (on sale!), YesStyle skirt, Aritzia jacket (inside), Mackage leather jacket, 3.1 Phillip Lim pumps, Chanel lipstick in Pirate

  1. Gorgeous look! Loving the black and white prints, and the addition of a leather jacket for a bit of edge!

    Bold Subtlety

  2. I LOVE THIS! I thought it was a dress at first, as the two prints go perfectly together! I love how crisp and vibrant these photos are even though you’re in all black & white! Gorgeous!

  3. Such a gorgeous outfit! Love everything, especially the shoes! :)

  5. By far one of my favourite looks on you as of yet! I love pairing different patterns together. It gives an outfit something pleasing for the eyes and bit of a personal touch. Also might I add I really look your hair styled like this. A bit straighter than usual, it’s different and I love it!

  6. You wear this style of skirt so well, Jen!! And I love the way you layered a black jacket over your white one; I agree that black and white combinations – no matter what they are! – always look great!!

  9. I think this combination looks confusing to the eyes due to heavy pattern. I think one of them would be nice, but both at the same is too much. I very much love those shoes of yours.
