Living in a soggy and cold winter climate is probably a personal style blogger’s worst nightmare. It was supposed to be a dry day, but right in the middle of this photoshoot the rain started coming down hard. Roderick was a trooper and kept shooting, but as you can probably tell by the photos I was very uncomfortable because of my delicate calf hair shoes and quickly flattening hair. On a happier note, I’ve been throwing this vest over everything lately for a pop of interest and an extra layer of warmth. I’d highly recommend a black faux fur vest – it’s so versatile and in my opinion, a little bit more special than the tan colour varieties!

Happy New Year! Do you do resolutions?
Wearing: YesStyle vest and blouse, H&M jacket, Zara leather skirt and shoes, MICHAEL Michael Kors bag, vintage necklace (gift from a sweet friend, who got it at the Brooklyn Flea!)

  1. You look so darling! And you took the words right out of my mouth with the faux fur vest – I just recently found mine when I was unpacking after my move to the east coast and I can’t get enough of it! I’m layering it over everything from turtlenecks to dresses. It adds such a great statement, and the warmth is totally appreciated.

Happy new year, sweets! I hope it’s a great one. xo

  2. I can see why the vest has become a go-to piece; it definitely adds extra visual interest and seems so warm, as you say! It’s too bad about the weather, but I hope that otherwise you have a lovely start to 2012! I’ve made resolutions on/off for the past few years, but I think this year I might try again. Happy new year!

  3. I completely sympathise with the rain predicament, Jen! I usually wind up carrying a cumbersome bag of potential changes to photoshoots, just in case the rain starts and I have to change out of a delicate jacket or suede shoes. [There’s nothing to be done about the hair issue. Sigh.] You still look gorgeous in spite of the impromptu downpour. Black, white and gold are perfect every time :)

  5. This year the winter weather is seriously getting on my nerves, I’m just sick and tired of all the rain and dark skies… Wish I could at least look as gorgeous as you do on a dreary day! :o)

  6. So gorgeous, Jen! Welcome to 2012… Vancouver style, through the rain and all that. I feel your pain though, especially with the limited hours of sunlight. Regardless of all the flattening of hair and possible ruining of shoes, you look gorgeous! <3

Here’s to another year xo :)

  7. You look amazing. It has been raining non stop here for days now and I hate hate hate it! x

  15. Love your outfit! It’s because of the unpredictable rain in Vancouver that I don’t think I’d like living there. I think I’d much rather deal with the snow here in Edmonton, haha. Hope your shoes didn’t get ruined!

  16. Such a pretty outfit to start off the new year! I guess we were taking pictures at the exact same time. Luckily I was able to quickly find a spot with a roof.

Hope you had a wonderful NYE. Happy New Year!

  18. Aw well not only is Roderick a trooper but so are you, love that you still have that smile on your face despite the rain! And this is a beautiful look, I love the layers and how glamorous it all is! Absolutely beautiful as always. My only resolution this year is to become more organized, as you may have guessed from my perpetual lateness I am the most disorganized person ever! What about you?

Hope to see your lovely face soon!

  19. Hi,
I have followed your blog for as long as I can remember and have learned so much from you :). I had a request, could you please show us your skin care and (neutral/natural) make up routine? Thanks a bunch! Happy New Year!

  20. Detroit and Hawaii are very similar in that regard. (at least the part of Hawaii we live on–the weather on this side is the rain forest, and the climate is extraordinarily temperamental… but that’s why it’s so lush here.)

You still look amazing and not sodden at all.

Missed your face and blogging in general.

    Xs, Os and Aloha!
