The Classics

I have a bit of a confession to make: when I first started blogging (and for a good while after, actually), I would quite often buy things largely “for the blog”. What I mean by that is that it was customary for me to strongly consider how standout of a piece it would be and how it would photograph, and that would be at the forefront of many purchasing decisions. That obviously wasn’t a very good way to shop, and as a result I ended up with a closet full of things that I truthfully didn’t really like all that much.

I think that’s a lot of what began to subconsciously drive my “Buy Less, Choose Well” mentality, and the desire to get back to the essence of why I wanted to blog in the first place. I’m happy to report that I now know better (for the most part), and at the risk of coming across as “boring”, now consider wardrobe longevity and classic appeal much more than the former criteria. The thought of building a uniform, of sorts, with classics and some unique pieces that are truly appreciated is more important to me now, and that includes pieces like the basics in this outfit.

  1. I have gone through the same experience. Well live and learn. I think it even evolved my style even more what maybe I would never have done if I didn’t had a blog.
Jen this is so pretty and feminine look, I like that you paired your denim vest it gives a bit of edginess.

  3. I know exactly what you mean! I always try and think about how many times I’ll wear the piece after it’s on the blog… Love this look Jen!

  4. I know exactly where you’re coming from in this post :) I love that “Buy Less, Choose Well” motto you’ve emphasized – it’s so true – especially as we get older and more mature in our fashion sense :) You look so cute in this outfit, and NOT boring at all!!

  5. Hi Jenn,

This post is truly relatable to me. As a blogger, I have been doing the same thing. So I ended up buying many pieces that I only wore it once, which was for the blog photo shoot. I’m gradually learning to define the fine line between buying the stuff I really love and buying the stuff I think my readers might like.

You look very nice in this classic and casual outfit. :) ) Thanks for sharing your confession! AND, I just shared mine. haha

    xoxo.

  6. How interesting to have shopped with the ‘wrong’ mentality! I think adopting the approach of ‘buy less, choose well’ is true for all, but even more for bloggers because it’s so easy to get caught up in wanting to get the latest ‘it’ item!
