Good Food, Great Company

by Jen on Thursday, April 29, 2010

Exams are finally done and while I am still crossing my fingers for my marks, it is definitely time to take a breather! Headed to a friend's place tonight for the first BBQ of the year. Although it turned out much smaller than we expected, it was an amazing evening full of good food, good laughs, a little golf, and even a bit of horseshoe throwing.

Going to Florida on Saturday and have finally gotten some time to get excited about it! Although we're staying in Disney World, to tell you the truth I am most thrilled about the shopping. I can't wait to hit up the outlets!

Hope you're having a wonderful week.... how's the weather where you are?

The Blazer Revisted

by Jen on Friday, April 23, 2010

I know that I really should be studying now instead of posting again, but it was a beautiful day today which meant that procrastination was essential. And I'm here to post it up and finish what I started!

I decided to wear the blazer that I wore yesterday again and style it in a different way. The reason for this is because I wanted to prove luxury companies wrong when they say that something is an "investment piece". Now, it's not that I don't believe in quality and fit because I do and those two things are imperative no matter what I'm purchasing. I just think that those two words act as an "enabler" of sorts and cause people less guilt for spending so much on an item. I spent $39.99 on this blazer and am satisfied with the quality and fit, and believe that it will serve me for years. It's fully lined and sewn well and goes with just about anything. Let's face it, 97% of us can't afford to spend several thousand dollars on a dress. I am here to vouch that a piece of clothing need not cost an entire months' salary in order to be validated as an "investment piece"!

Unfortunately, not all fast-fashion finds are of such good quality. I love the details on this Forever 21 top, but it's beginning to pill already. I guess in many cases, you do get what you pay for.

Hopefully this is really the last you hear of me until I finish finals. Thank you so much for your encouragement and kindness!

Just around the corner...

by Jen on Thursday, April 22, 2010

Seriously lacking sleep with two finals left and obviously I have my priorities straight by posting this... but I just couldn't neglect my blog any longer!

I am halfway through finals and not kicking ass as planned. Hoping and praying that I am going to pass everything. I wish studying was one of my strong points but my attention span is literally seconds to minutes long. As I write this post I am flipping through a million other things. I guess it has something to do with growing up in a world where we are continuously being bombarded with more and more things to distract us. Or.. maybe it's just me.

All I can think about is freedom next week! It's so close! Heading to Florida next week, then going to hopefully take up a sewing class for the rest of the summer! What are your plans?

Anyway, enough complaining and time for another attempt to start studying!

And while I am at it... do you have any tips for concentration?

As finals approach, I believe one of the keys to doing well on your exams is actually putting effort into how you look while writing the paper. Maybe it's odd, but when I put time into getting ready, I feel more awake and alert, allowing me to remember more clearly what I studied. That's why I willingly sacrifice that extra 20 minutes of sleep after pulling a near all-nighter for the sake of looking put-together.

The 3/4 sleeved mini-dresses that H&M have been selling are so ideal for these exam days. They're the perfect canvas for accessorizing and so easy-breasy! To top it off-- they are super affordable-- I picked this striped red one up for $14.95!

To students: what do you wear during exams?

All Things Pretty

by Jen on Saturday, April 17, 2010

After seeing Sterling Style's post, I felt the urge to head over to Net-a-Porter myself. I can't afford any of these pieces nor do I wish to ever spend this kind of money on myself for a single item of clothing/accessory, but I do love anything pretty, delicate and dainty and can't help but admire how these designers have captured femininity and elegance so well on garments that you wear on your body.

So without further ado, here is a compilation of pieces from my favourite designers for SS'10: Lanvin, Oscar de la Renta, and of course the all-time favourite, Valentino.

Have a great weekend!

Blue Bloom

by Jen on Wednesday, April 14, 2010

Finally got a chance to wear my new blue ruffle dress from the H&M Garden Collection today! I initially woke up ready to pull on the dress and head out the door. But when I looked out the window, it was POURING! Gone were my hopes of a breezy spring outfit.

However, I refused to let that get me down (or to change my outfit). So I threw on a winter coat and out the door I went... and lucky for me it cleared up later in the day!

Mackage coats are amazing. I wish I could afford them. The fit is impeccable and the materials are lush (the coats are HEAVY!). And oh, don't get me started on the details! This one was purchased two winters ago for half off because they were discontinuing the style.

Warmth

by Jen on Friday, April 9, 2010

It was a beautiful day today so we headed to the lake for photos! It was so nice to be outside and feel the sun soaking into our shoulders.

Afterwards, we passed by a playground and couldn't help stopping there to hang out. We swung on some swings, slid down some slides and told stories about our childhoods.

It was such a nice afternoon, but unfortunately that'll be about the extent of my weekend. The remainder of it will be spent studying for a Calculus exam on Monday. Hope yours will be more eventful. Wish me luck!
