The Old Fashioned Way

by Jen on Friday, July 29, 2011

{finally met Kristy, who graciously bent down to my level to compensate for my shortness!}

I'm sure all of us would agree that one of the biggest perks that results from the hours spent writing posts and up-keeping a blog are the relationships that are inevitably formed. Last night, I was blessed to be able to spend some good old fashioned face-to-face time with three girls who I've gotten to know over the course of the life of this blog. I'm glad that social media has pushed us past the days where "meeting someone from online" was seen as creepy because there are just too many fun people in the world- Kristy, Nicole and Jess being prime examples :)

Happy Weekend!

Greenery

Ever since I purchased this skirt in the spring, I've had a bit of an affinity with the colour green. I'm fairly convinced that it's flattering on almost every skin tone and is a great shade to transition through the seasons with. This subtly patterned dress was found at Zara's summer sale and it accompanied me onto the One of a Kind boat cruise on Monday.

What colours have you been drawn towards lately?

Tuesday Treats: One of a Kind

by Jen on Tuesday, July 26, 2011

For this week's Tuesday Treats, I wanted to feature some photos that I snapped last night at the One of a Kind media preview (which was on a boat- how great is that?). This annual event, which happens in December, showcases and sells various items such as clothing, jewelry and food that are handmade in limited quantities. Although I don't have the slightest "crafty" inclination in me (just ask my friends about my laughable homemade birthday cards), I do greatly appreciate the talent of those who do. Since this show is actually held in December, winter-themed decorations were all around us as we spent the warm summer evening checking out some exhibitors for this year's show and sailing the Vancouver waters.

{The PR girls were all wearing clothing from this designer and they all looked very chic. Be sure to keep an eye out for her pieces!}

{Sheila Wong provided sewing tips and made fabric flowers with guests}

{Dirty Apron catered the event with delicious sandwiches, cheeses and cured meats}

{...and they did desserts, too. That ginger snap was a dream of a cookie!}

I know that the actual event is a whiles away, but I went last year with the bestie and can attest to it being a lot of fun. The One of a Kind Christmas Show and Sale also hits Toronto and Chicago, so do check it out come December if you get a chance!

Mixing in navy blue with neutrals (yes, leopard is a neutral) has easily been one of my favourite combos lately since it makes for easy, fuss free and naturally classic dressing (I used it in my last outfit, and also in this one). I opted for the super-casual and pared down rendition of these hues over the weekend for some afternoon errands followed by a simple dinner out.

Happy Monday!

Pinkberry in Canada!

by Jen on Friday, July 22, 2011

{fashion bloggers all around- Jen, Melissa, Alicia, Alex and myself}

Last night I had the opportunity to attend an event to celebrate the launch of Canada's very first Pinkberry store, which has just opened in the Village at West Vancouver's Park Royal Shopping Centre. And what an event it was: free "froyo" with all the toppings, sparkling wine, and great company-- complete with a live performance by Bonnie Dune, whose drummer is none other than infamous BC-boy Cory Monteith (better known as "Finn" from Glee!).

{toppings galore. my favourites: mochi, blackberries and blueberries- yum!}

I was impressed by the array of flavours and toppings there were to choose from, seeing that I had been used to seemingly much less from other Vancouver frozen yogurt joints in the past. The yogurt itself was just tart enough and the fruit toppings were fresh and juicy. I now understand the "cult following" behind this brand and am thrilled that such great frozen yogurt is available just a short drive from downtown Vancouver!

{with the lovely Lisa of Solo Lisa}

{i heard that some lined up for over 2 hours for their free frozen yogurt- that's dedication!}

{two ladies too stylish not to snap: Lisa von Sturmer, director at Growing City and Mana Mansour, Shaw Multicultural Channel Host}

{thought Glee fans might appreciate this- I know I did!}

{Heading home after a lovely evening! Wearing an H&M jacket, RACHEL Rachel Roy blouse, Zara trousers, Coach bag and wedges (c/o Coach)}

A big thanks to Pinkberry Canada and Lisa Kwong of Tara Parker Tait PR for a great party, RF Productions for the event shots and my sweet friend Questa for helping me snap some photos!

Nearing Twilight

These photos were snapped after an evening foot reflexology session with the bestie last Friday night. It was getting dark, but the lighting provided the perfect mood to capture the vibrancy of this new midnight blue blouse. The piece was a recent find that I think looks so much more expensive than it actually was - which is, in my opinion, the best kind of purchase!

Balloonathon!

by Jen on Monday, July 18, 2011

Recently, my dear friends Paul Milaire and Roderick Fung kindly agreed to take some photos of me and my girlfriends. So, adorned in black & white with gold accents (can you guess whose idea that was?) and balloons in our favourite colours, we set out for an afternoon of casual and fun shooting. We couldn't be happier with the results and feel so blessed that years down the road we'll be able to happily look back at these shots and remember how young we looked back then!

{If you're in the Lower Mainland, I highly recommend getting these guys to shoot you with your significant other, friends or family (email me for details)! They're so much fun to be around, reasonably priced and these photos are clear evidence of their talent!}

In The Bag

by Jen on Friday, July 15, 2011

I may be a bit late in jumping on this train, but since I've always been interested in "What's in Your Purse" posts by other bloggers, I thought it would be fun to do one myself! Here are the things that I jam into my bag on a regular basis:

1. Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector
2. Sunglasses - always in a case!
3. Since I am often on the go for hours at a time & don't want to spend money on drinks, I always bring a water bottle with me
4. Floss and Band-aids for after meal hygiene and little emergencies
5. My beautiful Mulberry wallet purchased on my recent trip to London
6. Because I take public transit often, a book is quite necessary to pass time & drown out any headache inducing surroundings!
7. Tory Burch pouch from David's sister last Christmas used to carry make up essentials
8. MICHAEL Michael Kors key chain - different enough so that I can find my keys fast.
9. MICHAEL Michael Kors iPhone case - has slots for a few cards and keeps the phone safe!

Bag: MICHAEL Michael Kors Hamilton

Have a lovely weekend!
Also, swing by No Guru and Smashion if you'd like to check out some recent interviews that I did!

Tuesday Treats

by Jen on Tuesday, July 12, 2011

{Spending days at Granville Island, complete with macaron breaks at the Public Market}

The summer season is now in full swing, and a break from anything school or work-related has been allowing me to enjoy mine to its full potential. Here are some highlights in photos from my summer so far!

How is your summer coming along? I would love to hear about it!

{visiting one of my favourite restaurants too many times- thrice in the last 2 weeks!}

{oodles of balloons - photos from this day coming soon!}
