Relaxed

by Jen on Friday, June 28, 2013

 It could very well be because of a recent slight weight gain (thank you, slowing metabolism and slew of amazing restaurants to try in the city), but lately I've been all about the loose and relaxed when it comes to silhouette choices. These pants have been a go-to not only for the fun print but for their extreme comfort, right down to the drawstring waist. To keep things from looking too athletic-inspired or potentially sloppy, polishing them up with a pair of pumps and a leather bag has been essential.

Hello, Summertime

by Jen on Tuesday, June 25, 2013

{in bloom}
Being out of school and not having a designated summer vacation anymore, I thought the novelty of the season would have worn off by now. However, that's proven to be completely untrue, as having only the weekends to enjoy the weather has only made it all the more precious.. And even though it was more wet than dry and more cold than warm in Vancouver, the first few days of summer were all around great ones. Here are a few snapshots from it and here's to making the most of this short but sweet season!

Little Yellow Dress

by Jen on Monday, June 24, 2013

Ever since I discovered that the drop waist actually worked for my body, I've been casually keeping my eye out for a dressier version of the silhouette. This recent consignment shop find was a clear winner: I love that while the fabric is clearly on the formal side, the easy, looser cut relaxes the vibe. It's also truly the prettiest shade of yellow I've ever seen... and has me quite convinced that everyone should own a Little Yellow Dress.

Easy B&W

by Jen on Tuesday, June 18, 2013

Topshop blouse |  Loeffler Randall sandals (on sale) | Alexander McQueen bag | Lucca Couture shorts | Karen Walker sunglasses
More and more these days, I've been choosing comfort first when getting dressed in the morning. Commuting to and from work in the heat (I work in a casual environment, and am so thankful that I get to wear whatever I want!), it's definitely favourable to be in loose silks and flowy silhouettes. This Topshop blouse is just that, and edged up with a compact Alexander McQueen bag and classic sunnies, it's the ideal outfit for work, for play, and of course - the crowded train!

Muted Pop

by Jen on Monday, June 17, 2013

This past weekend was a good one: I caught up with a girlfriend, celebrated Dad, and even stopped by the Wong Fu Productions event in Vancouver (I've been watching their videos for ages & had a completely awkward fan girl moment as evidenced here - big props to D for speaking for me when I had zero words ;). Another highlight was unexpectedly finding my Fall bag for a ridiculously good price at The Bay: I love that its minimalist shape allows it to pop in a subdued way. Its also happens to be my lucky number, so it was clearly meant to be! How was your weekend?

Drop Waisted

by Jen on Wednesday, June 12, 2013

 I seem to be learning (more) often lately to never rule anything out when it comes to silhouettes for my body shape. I'd previously ruled out the drop waist dress, as I figured the cut would definitely not flatter my proportionately larger lower half. This Tobi dress was too cute not to try, though, and - although it really fits more like a tunic - it's definitely removed my hesitations. Moments like these are when it's great to be proven wrong!

Statement Making

by Jen on Tuesday, June 11, 2013

Regardless of the many jewelry trends that have come and gone, I have, and probably always will be, the most drawn to the statement necklace. It's the quickest way add a bit of pizazz and personality to an ensemble, and has the ability to transform the most casual look into an elevated one. Though I'm definitely partial to wearing them with high necked tops (I think it allows the baubles to pop most effectively), wearing them under the collar or with a scoop neck work equally well. Here are some current favourites that have been on repeat for the last little while.

Maxi Time

by Jen on Monday, June 10, 2013

Standing at a mere 5'3, it's always been difficult to find a maxi dress to wear with flats (without it doubling as cleaning cloth for the floor). That's why coming across this beauty recently was like striking gold: it hits right at the ankle on my frame, which is ideal for sandals, but still looks great dressed up with heels. It also happens to have the most beautiful neckline and flows gorgeously in the wind. I've easilyworn it four times in the past two weeks, and will definitely be living in it all summer long. Wearing: Loft 82 maxi dress, Maje belt, MICHAEL Michael Kors bag and sunglasses, Jeweliq necklace, worn as bracelet (c/o), Coach sandals, Revlon lip butter (in Tutti Frutti, a current favourite!)

Renewed

by Jen on Friday, June 7, 2013

I love it when an older item gets new life: when, just as you've forgotten it at the back of your closet or reserved it for a specific season, you suddenly see it in a whole new light and the possibilities for it seem endless. I'm kicking off the weekend in these booties which have definitely gotten that fresh boost: they've been a fall/winter staple for a couple of years now, but when I tried them on with this dress, I ended up loving the way they offset the girlishness of the piece. Happy Friday and I hope you have a restful weekend!
Wearing: YesStyle dress (c/o), H&M jacket, Stuart Weitzman boots (on major sale!), 3.1 Phillip Lim bag (crushing on this mixed media one too...), Lauren Elan bracelet (c/o)

{Thursday} Treats

by Jen on Thursday, June 6, 2013

 {a midweek girl's night with indulgent poutine}
I am continually hearing people say that we should be less "busy", and how we've foolishly filled up our schedules, exhausting ourselves with ultimately inconsequential things (which of course, seem important while we're doing them). I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment, but I just can't seem to get myself out of the cycle. Truthfully, I've been so tired lately everything seems like a big blur (and things are behind schedule, like how a supposed Tuesday Treats is published on Thursday instead). Sadly, this seems to be the case with most people I've talked to - and I wish it wasn't the case. Here's to stepping back and savouring some happy things from the past couple of weeks.

I'd also love to know - how do you unwind and find balance in your life?
