Patch it Up

by Jen on Monday, October 31, 2011

The past weekend was wonderful for a variety of reasons, but a highlight was definitely Sunday afternoon when I convinced David to take me to the pumpkin patch. Unfortunately, I obviously didn't know what I was in for and my choice of footwear was rather inappropriate for the given situation. Thankfully, David saved the day by inventively making use of some plastic bags for me to wear over my snakeskin loafers. Though everything worked out & we got some laughs out of it, the lesson was definitely learned: next year, wellies!

Little Doses of Happy

by Jen on Thursday, October 27, 2011

{a pretty manicure that is still 'safe' enough for my liking, given to me by a talented friend}
We've been blessed with some remarkably beautiful, albeit chilly, autumn weather here in Vancouver this year. However, that all changed today with the first dark and wet day we had in a while and according to the weather forecast, this gloom is here to stay. Since my mood tends to be drastically effected by the weather (a case of SAD?), I've been looking to the little things to inject doses of happiness into my day- things like reading in bed, nail polish, and pretty new jewelry. To me, sweet little pick me ups like these are key to getting through the shorter days with my sanity in tact.

{a variety of reading material for times curled up in bed - with an oversized cashmere sweater on of course}

{new favourite polish - Billionaire by Deborah Lippmann. especially love how well it goes with my new studded BCBG ring!}

Leather & Lace

by Jen on Wednesday, October 26, 2011

Do you ever feel so good in an outfit that you have to wear it once more in exactly the same way? That's how I felt in this look that I wore to the H&M opening several weeks ago. Since there were never proper blog photos taken of it anyway, I decided to put it on again- this time for a late Saturday afternoon visit to Van Dusen Garden. It was my first time there in all my 23 years in Vancouver, and it certainly won't be my last. If you're ever in town, I'd highly recommend a visit!

Clash

For the lack of a better word, I am a huge sucker for Zara (and I know many of you are, too!). Still, it wasn't until I walked out the door the other day that I realized the outfit I had on was literally head-to-toe from the store. Since I was basically a walking advertisement for their clothing anyway, I decided to submit the look to their website's PEOPLE! initiative and lo and behold,was chosen! I had initially felt a little bad about the lack of creativity, but I guess it paid off. ;)

Happy Monday!

Title / Style Republic Feature

by Jen on Wednesday, October 19, 2011

I've enjoyed reading Style Republic's "We Love Bloggers" segment since its debut, so I was thrilled to be contacted by the editor-in-chief herself several weeks ago to be featured. I was even happier when Brittany told me the item of the week was by Stuart Weitzman, one of my favourite brands for on trend yet comfortable footwear. Given the fact that these booties are not a style I would normally choose for myself, I'm pleasantly surprised at how much they've grown on me since their arrival - I've actually been wearing them non stop. Thanks again to Brittany Law of Style Republic for the opportunity!

Tuesday Treats - Juxtapose

by Jen on Tuesday, October 18, 2011

{round toe pumps with a girly print against unabashedly edgy, lace up booties}
Feminine vs. Masculine. Subdued vs. Bold. Delicate vs. Harsh. Juxtaposing in style has proven to be one of the best ways to not take a trend too literally or to help make something your own. Now more than ever, I've been enjoying this practice in the way that I dress, and my wardrobe has changed to accommodate this accordingly. Here are some of my favourite things as of late that have been allowing me to do this.

{the vast majority of my nail polish collection consists of these two shades: one makes me feel youthful and feminine, and the other- grown up and bold}

{a leather miniskirt next to a ladylike midi-length floral piece}

{the girliest of girly pearl & bow studs brought next to textured, angular statement earrings}

{the most stunning juxtaposition of all - urban buildings against beautiful nature & what Vancouverites are constantly spoiled with}
What's been inspiring you lately?

Urban Nature

by Jen on Monday, October 17, 2011

When I first saw this gorgeous skirt in the H&M Conscious Collection campaign photos, I never thought that it would look good on someone with "sturdy" runner's legs like mine; I don't typically wear midi skirts (except for this one) because of their tendency to be completely unflattering on me. When I gave it a try at the H&M opening last week, though, I was pleasantly surprised. The length was perfect and it cinches beautifully at the waist to create a perfectly feminine skirt that will surprisingly pair well with a large number of looks.

This Prada cardholder, which was gifted by Reebonz, is the perfect wallet alternative when I'm carrying a smaller bag. Reebonz is a Singapore-based flash sale site that has daily exclusive and private high end designer sale events. I was very impressed with the quick shipping and beautiful packaging- it came wrapped in a pretty black box and gold ribbon. Registration is free, so sign up here to check out the goodness (there are currently vintage Chanel, Hermes & Louboutin sales going on- need I say more?)!

H&M at Metrotown!

by Jen on Thursday, October 13, 2011

Last night was quite the special one for Vancouverites- it was the long awaited grand opening of H&M at our city's largest mall, Metrotown. To celebrate, Lj PR threw a huge party complete with nibbles & drinks, and a 20% discount off the entire store for much of Vancouver's fashion community. The night also coincided with the launch of H&M's conscious collection for the fall; I had my eye on one of the jewel-toned floral pieces and happily came out successful!

This two story space is widely and comfortably spaced, with the entire upper floor for women and the lower floor dedicated to men and children.

The store officially launches at 12PM today, so be sure to check it out if you're in the area!

I wore an H&M lace top juxtaposted with a leather skirt (that I found this weekend on consignment!). To see better photos of the outfit as well as snapshots with other bloggers, hop on over to my Facebook page!

Orange You Glad?

by Jen on Monday, October 10, 2011

Ever since I fell for this coat (which I can't wait to pull out again) last year, I've casually been on the lookout for more orange. While it's definitely not an easy colour to wear, nothing quite gives off a burst of cheer more than this hue in its brightest form. This lighter weight sweater from Zara stands out while the air is still warm enough for it to be worn on its own, and it will continue to inject a dose of happiness when the upcoming chills will require layers on top.

P.S. Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians. I'm thankful for a loving God, family, friends, this blog & everything related to it, and a beautiful city to call home.

Leather Weather

by Jen on Thursday, October 6, 2011

*this post brought to you by - my-wardrobe.com

{preppy}

{edgy}

{ladylike}

I've toyed with the idea of a leather skirt since last fall, but haven't taken the plunge since I've not been sure of how well it would go with the more demure pieces that I'm usually drawn to. Since I'm still considering it a over year later, I took the chance to play around with different possible looks using the "everyday luxury" pieces available at My-Wardrobe, a seriously well-edited site full of beautiful things. The conclusion? A leather skirt is a versatile, fun and a good juxtaposition against otherwise feminine looks. I'm sold, and am now on the hunt for the perfect rendition!

What do you think of leather skirts? Do you want one?
