Ornamental

by Jen on Wednesday, March 30, 2011

I had been eying J. Crew's gold sequined skirt ever since seeing it on Taylor of Sterling Style, but the fact that it was sold out everywhere and also way over my budget at $275 left it as nothing more than a fleeting thought. Leave it to Forever 21 to come up with a much more affordable option: I snagged this one at less than 10% of the former skirt's price and I like that the rose colour of the sequins make it that much more girly!

What do you think about sequined skirts for daytime?

Tell Me a Story

by Jen on Sunday, March 27, 2011

How many of us pick up a vintage piece and wonder what fantastic story lies behind it? I feel that these advertisements for Oxfam perfectly encapsulate one of the greatest thrills and excitements that every secondhand/vintage shopper gets to experience: Who wore it before me? What was her life like? And where is she now?

Although we will probably never discover the life that the previous owner had, or the fact that the real story was probably not quite so glamorous, these little dreamed up tidbits really make the pieces we find that much more special, don't they?

Hope you are all having a lovely weekend!

I Picture You In The Sun

by Jen on Wednesday, March 23, 2011

Since I heard that Vancouver was pretty much the only place in North America that had nice weather today, begging my boyfriend to help me take some fun outdoor shots was without question. Going to school in a rural town provides for some pretty great back drops and this big grassy field next to a farm was perfect under the warmth of the sun!

I've dressed the frock in these photos up, down, and everywhere in between since getting it on consignment last year. It is easily one of my favourite pieces in my closet: it's super versatile and comfortable, and since it's 100% silk (including the lining!) I know it will last me forever. Definitely one of my best second hand finds!

Yippee!!!

by Jen on Tuesday, March 22, 2011

If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter you will already know this, but yesterday Coach contacted me to inform me that they had selected me to be a Guest Blogger! I am so honoured that I was chosen alongside bloggers Paper Fashion and eat.sleep.wear, and was thrilled when they told me that my video really set me apart (endless thanks goes to my boyfriend and good friend Tiff for helping me out)! I will be doing the Guest Blogging in one of the summer months of this year-- so stay tuned!

I know this is cheesy, but a girl could seriously not ask for better readers. xo!

Spring in Your Step

by Jen on Sunday, March 20, 2011

Here's to making the most out of the coming sunny days: ones that will be filled with barefooted walks on green grass, driving around with the top down, outdoor patio dinners and feeling sunshine on your face. Happy Spring!

Shining Brightly

by Jen on Thursday, March 17, 2011

I am very flattered that Kristy of monochroma.chic featured me on her blog today as one of her current fashion "crushes", especially since I am in the company of the super stylish Atlantic-Pacific and Saucy Glossie. Not only do I find constant inspiration from the way Kristy puts things together (and of course her amazing shoe collection), but she was one of my first friends in the blogging world and truly one of the sweetest. Thank you so much!!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I'm going to be cooped up studying; hopefully yours will be more eventful! What knds of exciting things do you have planned for your weekend?

Grown-up Rain Gear

by Jen on Tuesday, March 15, 2011

With the amount of rain that Vancouver gets, the unthoughtful uniform of a waterproof rain jacket & wellies can become drab and, well honestly, a little bit depressing. This black Mackage trench that I scored last summer at a deep discount, paired with a pair of stiletto booties (and of course an umbrella), has thankfully allowed for a much chicer alternative.

Nearly There

{hanging out at the Olympic Oval on a cloudy but warm July day}

Here's a selection of photos taken from some of my fondest memories last summer. Irrelevant now? Maybe. Could I wear any of this in today's weather? Nope. But hopefully the vibrant colours brighten up your day a little bit and give you a small burst of excitement for the type of weather that is coming... any.... day... now....

Coach Guest Blogger Video

by Jen on Friday, March 11, 2011

A few days ago, Coach tweeted that they were looking for a guest blogger for the month of May. If you are familiar with their guest blogger features, you will know that Coach is very selective for the segment, choosing only the most talented of ladies with great senses of personal style to take on their challenges.

That's why when I read two days ago that anyone could let Coach know they wanted to be considered just by sending them a Tweet, I wanted to make mine special! So, armed with absolutely zero knowledge or experience in film editing and having nothing but a camera without a video recording function, we set out to make our very own stop motion film.

Here it is, and if you have Twitter, I would love it if you could re-tweet this tweet for me!

Have a lovely weekend!

Fantasy Dressing

by Jen on Wednesday, March 9, 2011

{retro/modern - a 70s inspired look appropriate for the 2011 girl}

I rediscovered my love for Polyvore today, and disregarding cost and practicality (for the most part), had some fun in creating a few dream spring/summertime ensembles inspired by my personal renditions of the trends that we saw on the runways last September. Enjoy!

Look Ma, No Tights!

by Jen on Monday, March 7, 2011

Today marked the first day of the year that I was able to go outside in a skirt without tights-- and it was warm enough, too! What a happy day! To enjoy to sun, Tiff and I went down to Fort Langley after classes for a walk and some photos, and stopped by to grab some cupcakes afterward. Spring is here, it's finally here!!!

Sunnie Days

by Jen on Thursday, March 3, 2011

Because quality sunglasses tend to cost so much, I have only ever chosen "classic" shapes that I will be able to wear for years to come (see here, here and here) and hopefully will not date in a matter of a few seasons. However, while perusing ASOS a while ago, I came across this quirky pair and they were the perfect candidate to have some fun with: navy blue and gold, under $20 and big enough to cover my eyes on a make up free day. What's not to like?

Are you a spender or a saver when it comes to your sunglasses?
