All Dressed Down

 I have to be honest and admit that ever since I wore it here, this floral skirt had been collecting dust in the back of my closet. It's really a shame, since the print on it is so gorgeous, but it just seemed a little too dressy for day to day, non-office attire. Enter a chambray shirt: one of my favourite pieces as of late, this wonderful garment seems to have the ability to make anything look more casual without sacrificing a put-together element. Tucked into the skirt, it definitely helped give my problematic skirt a fresh new appeal.

By the way, are you doing anything tomorrow night? If not, please stop by The Bay in Downtown Vancouver for a fun Spring Shopping Event! I'll be there, along with several other style savvy ladies to talk about spring trends. Details and how to RSVP here!

Fancy Flats

by Jen on Monday, April 23, 2012

Maybe I'm not looking in the right places, but one of the reasons I tend to wear heels more than flats is because I find that flats typically look less interesting than their heeled counterparts. Enter the WHISKERLO: with all the comfort of a flat and the detailed intricacies of a heel, these beauties are definitely shoes that I will be stomping around in all summer long. Thank you Stuart Weitzman for the lovely footwear. Happy Monday!

{p.s. Just a quick reminder to enter the giveaway for a personally handmade jewelry piece and also to RSVP for this Thursday's spring shopping event in which I will be a part of the panel!}

Glow

by Jen on Wednesday, April 18, 2012

I love golden hour in the springtime: we get to experience such beautiful sunsets in this city that it makes the 8 plus months of rain a year completely worth it. Mix it in with the rustic lamps & cobblestone streets of Vancouver's birthplace, Gastown, and it's the ideal setting for a perfect April afternoon. D captured these shots last weekend, and I think it's safe to say that back-lit photos are now his specialty, don't you think?! Hope you are having a great Wednesday!

On a side note, I'm going to be at The Bay on April 26th (next Thursday) talking Spring Trends along with The Doctors Closet, Style Republic and Style Nine to Five! All are welcome, but a quick RSVP to [email protected] is required for entrance. More info here. Hope to see you there, and let me know if you have any questions!

Simply Prep

Sometimes it's wonderful to wear an outfit that doesn't consist of complicated, flowy components (loose cardigans & a-line skirts, I'm looking at you!) and that all fit 'just so'. I'm loving this wonderfully detailed YesStyle trench that helps elevate simple combinations such as this one into something a little bit more special. I wore this out for lunch with a friend, then to take a few photos for the lovely Alicia's 4th Blog Anniversary and to run some errands - all with flats in my bag for lengthy walks, of course. Happy Monday!

Puppy Love

by Jen on Friday, April 13, 2012

I love these photos that D captured of his puppy and I last weekend on a late afternoon sunny day walk. This hyperactive, sweet mini bundle of fur means so much to me: prior to meeting him, I never really cared for any animals at all. Now that we've had a few years to bond, I can't help but gush at every single dog I come across on the street! So here's to our canine best friends: the unconditionally affectionate, loving and delightful little (and sometimes big) creatures with hilarious personalities all their own.

p.s. it took a while, but I am entirely grateful and feeling so blessed to have reached 1000 GFC followers. Thank you so much! Stay tuned for a giveaway next week!

That's a Wrap

by Jen on Wednesday, April 11, 2012

I purchased this floral piece (worn as a dress here) several months ago with high hopes: with its lovely print and figure flattering shape, I pictured it as a dress that I could wear frequently into and during the summer. While that still holds true, and even though a dress is always a great way to throw a quick outfit together, the number of ways that it can be styled can sometimes be limited. Luckily, this particular dress happens to be a wrap dress, and as I was threw it on the other day I realized that it actually worked very well as a cardigan. I feel like I've tripled the possibilities with this piece - like shopping without spending a dime!

Tuesday Treats - Signs of Spring

by Jen on Tuesday, April 10, 2012

lighter & sweeter manicures using similar tones {this & this} to create a soft and fresh feel
Spring seems to really be in the air now. The days are getting longer and brighter, and I don't think I need to explain how long of a way that goes in lifting the spirits. I feel much more productive when I wake up these days: I've been running outside, going out of my way to walk more and happily tackling my to-do lists with determination. Besides the beautiful sun and the crisp, fresh air, here are a few of the things that have been helping to make one of my favourite times of the year just so darn great.

going for a walk in the late afternoon

pastel coloured treats - these macarons came from a sweet friend who was recently in europe {lucky girl!}

a new {to me} antique mirror that was purchased on a whim & at a steal, and fresh bright calla lilies from D!

a new bikini top {that I love so much & was so affordable I bought a double}

Piece de Resistance

by Jen on Thursday, April 5, 2012

{photos by Alicia (1-3) and Mina (4-5)}
If you've followed this blog for a while now, you'll know just how obsessed I was with my black faux fur vest last winter (see here, here & here... to name a few). I'm happy to report that I just may have found my new spring equivalent in this bright tangerine clutch! Since it's arrival into my closet a mere month ago, it's already proven to be surprisingly versatile: it pairs perfectly with a variety of neutrals and I've used it to add an easy pop of on-trend colour to many otherwise colour-less looks. I can't wait to do some colour blocking and texture mixing with it as well... so just a fair warning to expect to see it a lot!

Peeper Protectors

by Jen on Wednesday, April 4, 2012

Last summer, the House of Harlow Chelsea was seen everywhere in black and nude. They're reasonably affordable, the shape is flattering on everyone (especially a larger face, yay!) and the shades add an easy, glamorous touch to any look. That's why I was so excited to find that the editions they've come up with this year are even better! I've just taken the plunge and purchased the tortoise pair, but I can't help but admit that I'm also crushing on the purple ones in "bloom" : they're a great way to subtly incorporate spring's floral trend without having to take a big risk. Are you currently eying any sunnies? I'd love to know!
p.s. I bought my Chelseas on Revolve Clothing with free shipping and used the code "tulip" for 10% off!

Open-Toed

by Jen on Monday, April 2, 2012

A quick, casual post for a dreary Monday: it's been raining for what has seemed like weeks now, but these photos were taken a few days ago, back when it was actually warm enough to pull out open toed shoes for the first time this year (our city's weather likes to deceive us for short periods of time). Hope you're enjoying sunnier weather wherever you may be and have a wonderful start to your week!
