Easy Chic

by Jen on Thursday, May 31, 2012

Comfortable. Easy. Versatile. Not typically the adjectives used describe something more dressy, but those are the exact words I would use for this piece that Ministry of Retail sent over recently. The dress not only makes for seriously easy dressing but also lets the accessories shine, since it's essentially a blank canvas with just a slight bit of drama in the slit.
How would you accessorize this dress?

Tee Time

by Jen on Tuesday, May 29, 2012

I'm not much of a t-shirt girl. In fact, my friends have teased me- questioning the existence of even a single tee in my wardrobe. I'll be honest: prior to a couple of weeks ago, I had one quality white crew neck, which was more than enough for me. Thanks to Gap, though, my collection has not only tripled but I've found a new love for making dressier pieces casual with this classic. And seeing that this seems to be one of those wonderful tees that get softer with each wash, it's an even more welcomed addition to my closet.

Spontaneity

by Jen on Monday, May 28, 2012

I'm excited to share that as you read this, I will already be in New York City! The idea of the trip came completely last minute (less than two days before jetting off) and it is definitely one of the most impromptu things I've done in my life. If there's a time for spontaneity, though, it's when we're young... right?! I can't wait to spend quality time with D, discover the neighborhoods I've only seen in photos, attend an exciting event and hopefully meet some blogger friends in person, too!

Regular outfit posts will resume for the week, but you can also follow my NY adventures in real time here!

Neon-Tipped

by Jen on Thursday, May 24, 2012

{photos by Grace Lau Photo}
Although it's been said before, the best part of blogging has been the people that I have had the pleasure of meeting. Grace introduced herself at the Spring Fashion Event in April, and after a chat and some email contact we decided to meet for coffee. We went for a photo walk afterward since, in addition to owning her own business, she's also a very talented photographer! I wore this neon collared blouse (it's been on repeat lately!) with my equally electric-hued favourite jeans.

Canary

by Jen on Monday, May 21, 2012

Confession: I'm not very adventurous with nail colour. I tend to stick to reds, nudes & darks because I fear that other colours can easily result in a tacky look. Inspired by all the summery colours (and free manicure bar) at last week's Joe Fresh event, however, I decided to take a risk and replace the classic red I had on for a fun yellow. It was a risk well taken, as it quickly became my favourite part of this outfit: the bright Canary hue not only provided a fun, quirky pop to a black and white canvas, but had the effect of making me feel instantly happier.

Freshened Up

by Jen on Friday, May 18, 2012

On Wednesday morning, I got up bright and early and happily started my day at Joe Fresh's breakfast summer preview event. Everything in store was beautifully merchandised according to colour, and just being there induced a sense of cheer! I ended up adding some colour to my blouse collection with a seafoam polka dotted silk number (see here) and can't wait to wear it. Definitely pop in for a peek if you're one of the lucky cities with a Joe Fresh store (or Superstore) - there are currently many fun pieces to be considered!

{pure nail bar was on hand to give free manicures throughout the day in Joe Fresh's summer shades - I chose bright yellow "Canary"}

Tuesday Treats

by Jen on Tuesday, May 15, 2012

{a new blouse with a striking neon collar - an accessory in itself!}
Last weekend was just wonderful - the sun shone brightly, the weather was warm, and an outdoorsy out-of-town visitor ensured that ample time was spent enjoying every minute of it. Between hiking, kayaking, an outdoor dinner and two barbeques, there wasn't a whole lot of time for anything else. It really feels like summer has arrived, and I'm ecstatic (I'm sure you feel the same way!). Here are a few additional things that made the arrival of warm weather that much sweeter.

{the best mid-day treat on a warm day}

{new-found beauty products for summer: The 7 Virtues perfumes (have been using them daily!), which are so fresh and light (check out the great story behind the brand here), Chanel Black Satin and summer appropriate, lightweight Joe Fresh make up}

{an impromptu first barbeque of the year with good food, good wine and better company}

{goodies from multi-talented blogger friends: cards by LOVE+MARK'D, bracelet by MONIKALOVE and necklace by O MY HEART!}

Happy Tuesday!
disclaimer: products in photos 1, 3 & 5 were gifted or received as samples to try, but rest assured that I only post about things that I truly like!

Silhouette

by Jen on Monday, May 14, 2012

One of my favourite, most worn combinations is a fitted top with a high-waist, A-line skirt. In fact, if you've been reading this blog for a while, chances are that you have seen this combination more times than you can remember. I can't help it: the proportions of the silhouette instantly make me feel feminine and it is by far most flattering shape on my body type. Plus, paired with a light jacket, the look is easily transitioned into appropriate attire for a cool spring evening.
What's your go-to silhouette?

Style-Off!

by Jen on Wednesday, May 9, 2012

Recently, I was presented with a fun opportunity to participate in a Style-Off, hosted by the lovely Nelia at StyleBlog.ca. The two of us, along with the beautiful Elizbeth of Chic Heroin, were assigned the task of styling a Gap t-shirt maxi dress. There are so many ways to wear it, but my personal mission was to make this dress as figure flattering as possible. A waist-cinching belt was a no brainer, and I was thisclose to leaving the rest of the piece as it was. A last minute twisted knot (secured with safety pins, of course!) made the dress more flattering on my 5'3 frame and created a silhouette that felt much more "me".

I would love it if you went over to the voting page to vote for your favourite look (which is hopefully mine, but I'll understand if it's not ;))!

Shorts Weather

by Jen on Monday, May 7, 2012

{photos by Alicia}
Last week, I dove into my collection of shorts and excitedly pulled on a pair for the first time this year. To tell you the truth, though, it wasn't actually really shorts weather; I had my fingers crossed for the whole day that the rain would hold off until I got home! After almost 9 months of living in tights and pants, though, it's hard not to cheat a little... right? Hope you're experiencing lots of sunshine (and shorts weather) wherever you are!

A Bit of Silliness

by Jen on Friday, May 4, 2012

If you've ever seen a style blogger taking photos out in public, there's a good chance you probably felt kind of awkward for them. After all, standing around, trying to look pretty while photo upon photo is taken of you is a slightly strange & seemingly narcissistic situation. I'm so blessed that D is not only an amazing boyfriend (and photographer!) but also my best friend who always makes me laugh and encourages me to be goofy while in front of the camera. So here are some silly photos that hopefully serve as a reminder to fashion bloggers everyone to not take ourselves so seriously. Happy Friday!

On a more serious note, the winner of my Gratitude-Filled Giveaway is @about_celine! Congrats - please email me and we will arrange to have it shipped out to you ASAP :)
