Lip Service

Over the last little while, I've grown to adore how lip colour can give an extra bit of oomph to a look and brighten up the face. Since an increasing number of readers have been asking about the products I use on my lips, I thought it would be a good time to share!

I use Tokyo Milk, which is undoubtedly the best lip balm I've ever tried, to moisturize daily. On occasion I will add one of the following:

1. a MAC lip pencil in BRICK (which I use to fill in the entire lip area) or
2. a Revlon lipstick in Fuchsia

Both were bought on whims without previous research and both have luckily been successes. I'm actually a newbie when it comes to lipstick and am not a "real" wearer by any means: I cannot stand eating or drinking with even a trace of colour on my lips, so I'll often apply and then vigorously rub everything off come meal time (what a lady, right? ;) heh).

With that being said, please refer to this post to see how the red looks applied and this one for how the fuchsia shade looks on me.

Do you wear lipstick? Do you play it safe or go bold?
Happy Weekend!

I am a red girl myself. I love a bold lip, it complements my completion so well and it reminds me of how much of a chic bad ass I am!

Great post.

I thought I was the only one who had to scrape gloss and lipstick off before eating/drinking. What a relief to know I'm not alone! lol

I'm not a lipstick wearer either, but I've been applying it more frequently lately. I wish I could pull off bold colors, but I have a small mouth and thin lips, which would look much thinner and smaller with a bold color on :(

LOVE THE RED LIPS ON YOU, THOUGH! :D

You already KNOW how much of a lipstick girl I am. You get used to eating and drinking with it. You just start carrying handkerchiefs with you or tissues and use that to blot the bottle or glass so you don't stain the rest of your mouth. Or you blot and blot to the point where it doesn't transfer much except for when you eat.

Lipstick is such a game changer, I couldn't think of going out without it. If I am lazy, I'll just put on a bit of lipbalm and 1 coat of lipstick and blot, blot, blot to stain my lips, but I'll always have something on.

Revlon is a great go to for red and pink, and I think you've got a formula that works.

I like both natural and bold colors, but the bolds are what can instantly transform the face from casual to dressed, just like a pair of shoes.

"Shoes are to the outfit as lipstick is to the face." I firmly believe it, and I peddle that saying around as much as possible, since I wrote it. ^_^

Haha you know how much of a lipstick girl I am! Now that it's summer I've been wearing balms and lighter colours more frequently though. I'm constantly switching between Fresh Sugar Plum SPF 15 lip balm, Chanel Rouge Coco in Ruban Rose (a subtle pink that matches my lips pretty closely) and Chanel Rouge Allure in Exotic (an orangey coral).

Ahhh! I have now discovered your secrets :p! I usually stick to my Revlon "Peach" colour, on rare occassions, I'll smack on a fuschia. I definitely don't rock it as well as you though :)

Mmm I want to try that lip balm, I've been looking for a new one.

I'm a 100% lipstick girl, even though I don't know too much about make-up... I literally carry 3-4 lipsticks in my bag at any given time because you just never know. Hahaha.

I have that lip liner and the lip balm as well! Quelle coincidence! I'll wear lipstick depending on the minimalism of my outfits. If I'm wearing something basic, I'll definitely put some on.

I only really got into more detailed makeup a year or two ago, but I've completely fallen for lip color. Even when I do something subtle, I try to add a colored balm or glaze.

Personally, I tend to either do heavy eyes or heavy lips. I feel if you do both it tends to be too heavy, and darker lipstick shades (like wines or deep purples) require minimization elsewhere. My skin has a cool undertone, so I have to be very careful with reds, since most have an orange undertone instead of a blue. Light or nude shades have the opposite effect, though - I feel like they do a good job of playing down your mouth so eyes or cheeks can stand out.

Since you are a fan of the reds, I have to recommend Sephora's own line. The color is superb and long-lasting. I wore it for a wedding I was in and only had to touch up twice in an eight hour period - and that's with eating and drinking.

I'm new to lipstick, too- I was strictly a clear gloss girl for years, but I finally got sick of having my hair always stuck to my lips and took the leap to lipstick. Honestly, I've never looked back. I do prefer my lipstick to be of a softer consistency... think more like a gloss :) I've never tried Revlon, but that colour is gorgeous. Does it go on really dry? I'm a bit finicky, so I have to ask ;)
