Denim Weather

by Jen on Friday, September 20, 2013

Now that we're officially in transition mode, my wardrobe has started to take on a decidedly more autumn-themed tone. Since I'm not quite ready to pull out the tights just yet, denim has been on steady rotation over the past couple of weeks. These jeans (last seen here) have been a staple thanks to the fact that they go with everything. I'm also a still a big fan of the stripe detail, which has proven to help pull a lot of looks together while providing a little extra touch!

If you're looking for fun new denim this fall, you'll definitely want to check out Old Navy's skinnies sale that goes from now until October 2nd. They're an ideal way to make an everyday statement, and you can't beat the price point right now (they start at $19)!

Fall Colours

by Jen on Thursday, September 19, 2013

Perhaps it's an indication to get little more creative, but with the start of every layering season I'm always excited to wear the same favourite trusty colour combinations. This one (camels, reds, and greens)  is inevitably one of the first to be done: it's classic, casual, and coordinates perfectly with the changing hues of the leaves. Which colour combinations are you excited to wear this fall?

Convertible

by Jen on Thursday, September 12, 2013

Between the introduction of sweaters, scarves, boots and layers, I think most would agree with the sentiment that autumn is the best season to dress for. It's also pretty dangerous to go shopping during this time, however, as everything seems so appealing and fresh (anyone else feel this way?). Strategy is definitely useful before making additions to the wardrobe, and choosing classics that will take you far are always a good bet. A flat riding boot is a closet staple that won't go out of style - a worthwhile piece to purchase if there ever was one. And the only thing better than a great riding boot? A convertible riding boot, of course. This new pair from Coach is kind of genius and I can't wait to wear them with ev-ery-thing for the entire season.
Coach boots (c/o), also come in black and chestnut

Sweat it Out

by Jen on Tuesday, September 10, 2013

I've always been a little on the fence with the whole sweatshirt trend. While I think they can be fun and cheeky, it's personally been hard to find one that actually looks good on. This one from Old Navy has the essential casual and laid-back vibe to it, but it's also lightweight and shrunken enough to actually be flattering. And the bejeweled neckline is just the icing on the cake - perfect for jazzing up casual Saturday shopping outfit.

Boyfriend Shirt

by Jen on Friday, September 6, 2013

Aside from the obvious comfort, the best thing about a boyfriend shirt (or boyfriend-style shirt; this one is my own) is easily the ability to sleep in it, get up, throw on a pair of pants and call it an outfit. TGIF!

Pleats, Please

by Jen on Wednesday, September 4, 2013

Though I do closet purges several times a year, there are certain pieces in my wardrobe that I know I'll never get rid of... and this maxi skirt is a prime example of that. I'm not much of a vintage shopper, so that made it all the more special when I stumbled upon this skirt a few years ago. Something about putting on a one-of-a-kind piece from another era and having it fit perfectly feels like the ultimate shopping success, and it remains one of my favourites to this day. I love that it's breezy, it has great details, and perhaps the best thing about it - the pleats make it a perfect piece to twirl in.

Shirtdress

by Jen on Tuesday, September 3, 2013

Although it tends to mark the beginning of colder and shorter days, September remains my favourite month of the year. This title is given for a variety of reasons: the weather is just about perfect in Vancouver when it's not raining, it's my birthday month (25 this year - gulp), and it somehow feels like a brand new start to me as well - even more so than January does. It's also the optimal time for some good old "transitional dressing", and this shirt dress is going to be ideal for layering well into the autumn months. Here's to a great September!
