I've toyed with the idea of a leather skirt since last fall, but haven't taken the plunge since I've not been sure of how well it would go with the more demure pieces that I'm usually drawn to. Since I'm still considering it a over year later, I took the chance to play around with different possible looks using the "everyday luxury" pieces available at My-Wardrobe, a seriously well-edited site full of beautiful things. The conclusion? A leather skirt is a versatile, fun and a good juxtaposition against otherwise feminine looks. I'm sold, and am now on the hunt for the perfect rendition!

What do you think of leather skirts? Do you want one?

It just might be a bit too cold for a skirt. I would need to layer up! But it's nice & feminine! I would rock it with textured/patterned tights.

I love all of these sets you put together! Especially the last ladylike one. I'm looking into getting another pair of leather boots for the fall/winter. I like the idea of leather skirts and I would probably wear one out with tights.

I love leather skirts (and shorts for that matter). They are so versatile, as you have proven so fabulously here. A fall staple, in my opinion.

Leather skirts? I like the idea of them, but I don't think they're something I can actually pull off myself... I think I'm either too out of my element with them, or too old.

OLD MARRIED HAG that I am. LOL. :)

I love these picks, though. They're playful and fun, but I think with me closing in on 30, they're probably a bit too girlish for me now... I'm SO old.

Oh I keep seeing stylish ladies wearing this skirt and they always manage to make it look gorgeous and classy, any time I see one in the store though I get too scared and have visions of Harley Davidson bikers!
I love the outfits you styled, and am pretty sure that you could pull off the look so well!
Hope you're having a lovely week! xx

I never was too sure about leather skirts, but as long as it fits well and it's a decent length, I am sure it could look very pretty. I think the best material to pair up with leather is silk (or similar fabric). That makes it so much more 'elegant feminine'.

I just got a skirt very similar to the one you are showing from TopShop and wore it this week! I absolutely love it, and I think it is fine for work. Great ideas on remixing the skirt!

I'm seriously loving the "Edgy" look, those shoes are amazing! I could totally see you in all of these outfits. Love the textural elements in all of them. By the way, absolutely loved the video at Barefoot Contessa! You handled yourself like a pro and looked beautiful.

yeah, i keep seeing pleated or a-line leather skirts around & they look really cute! haven't found one to fit me yet though, i think because i'm quite petite, the leather needs to be soft/thin otherwise it sort of overtakes the whole look!

i like the edgy look above best :)

I love the preppy oxfords with the edgy leather skirt. There are some really great oxfords out there right now - I'm currently obsessed with the Tory Burch Stella.

I love the edginess leather adds to an outfit, but my suggestion if you haven't tried one yet is to find a "test model." Hunt through a few thrift stores for one and see how you like it. I have two skirts and a pair of leather pants that I found after a bit of hunting (and luck) at a couple local thrift stores. They gave me an idea of how to wear them, what length I liked them at, etc. before I went ahead and sank a considerable sum into a new one.

I wish my budget allowed for a leather skirt! It would take my normally preppy wardrobe to a whole new leave :) LOVE your blog--your posts like these would be perfect for my Friday's Fancies link-up...I'd be honored to have you join me! xoxo {av} | {long distance loving}
