Tuesday Treats - Essentials

by Jen on Tuesday, November 15, 2011

{cleanse: I've completely abandoned store-bought cleansers and have instead been washing my face with oatmeal for the last few months (followed by toner and moisturizer). The results? Softer, clearer and calmer skin than ever before. I recommend this to everyone! See the video that first convinced me here.}

I never used to be a girl that stressed too much about beauty products, but recently I've learned that paying just a little bit of extra attention can equate to significant results. While things of this nature are still nowhere near the top of my priority list, finding and using great products has proven to be useful and rewarding. Here are some beauty essentials that have worked well to help me look and feel my best (of course, plenty of sleep and water are more effective than anything else). What are some of yours?

{tresses: to add extra shine to my mane, I take two dabs of Moroccan oil in my fingers and work it through the ends of my towel-dried hair. If I'm curling my hair in the morning, I protect it with Tresemme's heat tamer spray}

{face:my every day make up consists of a bright face, rosy cheeks and accentuated eyes. here are the products that I use to help me out: Laura Mercier secret concealer, YSL touche eclat, Bare Minerals warmth, Shu Uemura lash curler, Shiseido Nourishing Mascara Base (amazing) and Covergirl Lashblast.

{tips:though I've always been a red nail polish kinda girl, this fall I've been drawn to a greater range of colours. My favourites right now: Deborah Lippmann Sarah Smile, Butter London Royal Navy, Deborahh Lippmann Billionaire and classic OPI You Don't Know Jacques}

{spritz:I've always thought that women who have a "signature scent" are that much more put together. A few spritzes of this and I head out the door feeling just a little bit more ready to face the day}
Have any extra questions about any of these products? Ask me on Formspring!

love the nail polishes! especially the blue..

my secrets? benefit benetint, for the apples of my cheeks plus a little on the bridge of the nose, can't leave the house without it! I'm also very protective of my eyebrows (after hideously overplucking when younger), & just tidy them up a little with the tweezers every few days :)

Ooooh... I've been washing my face with oatmeal too for the last few weeks, and yeah, thanks to bubzbeauty, also. I still need cleanser to remove my makeup though, oatmeal doesn't remove eye makeup very well.

And how do you do it exactly with the oatmeal? You just add water or?

i love your tuesday treats posts jen! these photos are gorgeous, especially the last one, and i love the idea of oatmeal. i was planning on trying it as an exfoliant but i only have the maple sugar kind hahaha. that's probably not-so-good for your skin

I'd have to head out to a Chanel store to smell that scent soon! It looks so promising in your picture (:

Oh I need to try the oatmeal wash then! I have the world's most sensitive skin, even Philosophy's "Grace" or whatever moisturizer that's supposed to work wonders broke me out-- I never break out!

P.S. I'll need to track down that concealer, since that's basically all I wear as well :)!

Great post! I am not the person who spends too much money and time on finding the right beauty essentials, but luckily my aunt produces natural skincare products (soaps, creams, oils etc) so I've got that covered. But I will definitely try your oatmeal face wash!

I totally agree Jen! A little extra effort into which products you choose can make a big difference in how you feel overall. I am absolutely going to try the oatmeal (watched that video a few days ago!) and Moroccan oil is my saviour - I live by it now. XO!

Wow I never thought of using oatmeal before-I think I'm going to give that a try!

I've seen that video a few months ago and though my skin is not too problematic most of the time, I definitely wanted to try it...I'm up for trying any all-natural alternative to beauty/skincare products! Just tried it last week for the first time though and loved the initial results, I'm sure they would be even better with regular use :)

I think I've said it before but in case I haven't: I LOVE your Tuesday Treats. The photos are always so beautiful and inspiring! (I'm forgetful, but I might have said it the last time you posted Tuesday Treats haha)

I need to try cleansing with oatmeal! Thanks for sharing :)

Thanks for the tip about the oatmeal:) I've been using it for a week now and my skin is definitely smoother and softer! And it helps calm my problem areas.
